The week following enrollment, the Sophomores pounced upon us with untold fury. However, like all “Greenies” we survived this great ordeal. Our class officers were, Stanford Lynde, President; Lucille Nichols, Vice-President; and Clara Ann Pease, Secretary and Treasurer. Our Advisor for the year was Miss Lix. After the first semester, Bruce Powers and Darlene Clark joined our class. As a part of the High School Entertainment Program, the class presented a skit entitled, ‘‘Easter Parade.” As the year drew to a close we took a day off from our hard grind, and went on a picnic. At last the long-awaited event was here. We were Sophomores and with it a chance to regain our dignity, lost during the past year by humiliating the “Freshies.” After we had quenched our desire for torture and had made them as ridiculous as possible, we very kindly gave them a party. Officers for the year were; Stanford Lynde, President; Keith Holley, Vice-President; and Erie Gross, Secretary and Treasurer. Mrs. Stevenson, was our Advisor. During the year Virginia Rasmussen and Ataloa Hogan joined our class. A Halowe’en party was held for the high school and the annual school picnic was held on Upper Lodge Grass Creek. The Interschool Basketball Tournament was won by the Sophomore team. Having gained much knowledge and obtained a certain amount of prestige we now were classified as Upperclassmen. When the roll was taken it was found that the class had lost Darlene Clark and Gerald Barnes, but had acquired Bill Meister and Donna Kennedy. Being Juniors, we knew that we had a great deal of work to do. A play must be given and a prom must be planned. The play was a three-act comedy, entitled ‘‘The Blundering Herd.” Under the direction of E.J. Albrecht the play was given successfully, altho a snow storm hindered capacity attendance. The officers for the year were; Lucille Nichols, President; Erie Gross, Vice-President; and Clara Ann Pease, Secretary and Treasurer. Mrs. Swanson was appointed class Sponsor and under her guidance a most successful Junior-Senior Prom was given. The theme was a flower garden enclosed in a white picket fence adorned with sweetpeas, roses, and carnations. The flowers were made by the girls and the fence was constructed by the boys. Preceding the Prom a banquet was given in honor of the Seniors and Juniors. As we turned the last corner and started the last lap of our secondary learning it was apparent that two of our classmates had dropped out. Bill Meister had gone back to school at Loveland, Colorado, and Donna Kennedy had dropped out of school to go to work. Being Seniors, we were faced with the responsibility of publishing ‘‘The Little Horn Overflow,” and the Annual as well as presenting the Senior Class Play, “The Poor Rich.” Officers for the year were. Keith Holley; President; Dannie Felde, Vice-President; and Standford Lynde, Secretary and Treasurer. The Juniors honored the class with a banquet and prom. Inasmuch as the school term ended June fourth, graduation was held May 26. Solemnly, but with hopeful hearts we received our diplomas and stood, anxious and ready to go forth to find our place in the sun. CLASS WILL We, the Senior Class of Nineteen-hundred and Forty Nine, having attained astronomical heights in the fields of higher learning, and in the process have driven a number of teachers to insanity, and having patiently tolerated our association with the somewhat adolecent lower classmen, do hereby establish this Last Will and Testament. To the faculty we bequeath our ability to make the student body obey our every wish. To the Juniors we bequeath our perserverance, our ability to work together toward our goal and a happy, cheerful smile; with these they can fulfill their highest dreams. We also will them the many extra privileges which go with being a Senior. To the Sophomores we will our continuous enthusiasm in everything we do and hope that they too, will trip happily through their high school years. To the Freshmen we will our kindhearted dispositions in hopes that they will not be too hard on the Freshmen next year. Individually we will the following: “Hotbreath Holley wills his latest manuscript on “How to Win a Girl in one Easy Lesson” to Charlie Henson in hopes that Charlie will follow his direction. “Dimples” Nichols wills her outstanding ability to filibuster to Jackie Talkington, confident that Jackie will have plenty of opportunity to use it. “Proxie Locks” Felde wills his curling iron to Alex Nayes thinking that sometime Alex will need a few curls to “wow” the girls like Dannie’s do. “Ollie” Hogan wills her ability to keep Mr. Likarich laughing in P.A.D. class to Joy Bergquist and wonders if Joy will blush as much as she did. “Babe” Lynde wills his trips to Crow Agency every Sunday to Joe Clawson and hopes that Joe can keep the “Crow” girls as happy as Standford did. “Beans” Pease wills her special way of flirting with all available and unavailable men to Barbara White, who we think will use it to good advantage during her next three years in high school. “Greasy” Gross wills his “way with the women” to Carl Pease and wonders if Carl will have as much success as he had. “Shorty” Rasmussen wills her height to next years basketball team in hopes that they will profit by it. “Fuzz Williams wills his rubber bands and spit balls to anyone who is a good shot and can keep up Harry's reputation for never missing his target. 13 CLASS PROPHECY I know it’s the custom for a class prophecy to look ahead, to the far, far future with hopeful eyes and crossed fingers, but since we are forging out with a type of pioneer spirit, I thought it would be fun to imagine that this class were graduating in the days of the wild and wooly west, in the land of the pioneer. As we enter the little town of Dead Dog, Montana, we see few people, as the day is hot, and the horses at the hitch-rail are switching flies with their abundant tails. From the door of “The Golden Parrot,” (a local, uh....soda parlor) we hear a girl singing mournfully the old favorite ( 1 on the hit parade) “Clementine.” Lest we forget, let us go closer and cast an eye on this damsel with the heavenly voice. Great guns! It’s “Canary Annie Pease,” one of the Senior class ’49ers! I always knew she’d make the top! Ah, here comes another gorgeous lassie, down the old board-walk. Why, it’s ‘‘Lucky Lucy Nichols” fighting girl editor of the “Dead Dog Gazette.” I’d have stopped her, but she seems in a hurry. I guess most editors have to be. Here comes a rider down the street now! Thunderation! It’s Two-gun Ginny Rasmussen! Dive for cover! Well, she’s gone now, but she certainly shot up the town. There's one pore feller now, layin’ in the street. Get a Doctor! Ah, here comes Doc Holley, sawbones of Dead Dog. He’s examining the patient now. Hm... he says, “Have ta dig the bullet out.” He just produced a bottle of Old Over Hang from his coat pocket, gave the patient half of it as a pain killer, and drank the rest “for his nerves.” Hm... the doctor is putting his saws, chisels, screwdrivers, and other medical tools back in his little black bag. “Was the operation a success, doctor?” “Yes,” says he, but the feller died.” Oh, well, “Slick” Gross, the undertaker, has to live too. Sometimes I think he and the doctor work together. Well.. There goes Sheriff Dan Felde on his horse “Runaway.” I’ll bet he’ll capture Two-gun Ginny! She’s a menace to law-abiding citizens. And there, asleep in the shade of that water barrel is “Huntin’ Harry Williams,” the prospector. Seems he just had a narrow squeak in the mountains on his last trip. Ataloa, Chief of the fiercest, bravest, wildest band of Indians in the West, almost caught ’em. Well, it must have been very thirsty and tiring, because he’s certainly resting now. Well, that pretty well covers our Seniors, in the days of the Frontier. Who am I, you ask? Well, I just sit here all day, drawing pictures and keep saying, “I wanna be a cartoonist.” 14 ----Standford Lynde CHARLIE HENSON CAROLINE YELLOWTAI1 ALEX NAYES {Junior JACKIE TALKINGTON BRUCE POWERS CARL PEASE ANITA YELLOWTAIL FRAY LaFORGE JOE CLAWSON C JOY BERGQUIST JOHNNY BALL MARGIE WILLIAMS DOROTHY CALVETTI HELEN HARRIS SophomoreJ DALE CURRY JACK STEVENS y LORENE TETSCHNER DONALD FOLTZ PAUL WILEY DONNA LANDON RAMONA PANTOJA DONALD CLUMBIK CLARA R.
