It is with satisfaction that the staff presents this year- book--not only as a record of 1966--but as a permanent and lasting treasury of the golden moments of our high school years. aww at Nsmk HCampus Scenesn Table fy' Contents Foreword Q Campus Scenes Dedication Administration Q Faculty Departmental Classes Seniors Q Underclassmen Activities Elementary HAround Schooln Advertising ww ,X QW ww QV Xssxti-XX QM Y Nb- 'XY 19 l with ta SWB tw' Page 2 3 L+ 8 20 38 61 79 86 Dedication Eleven years ago, Mrs. Zelda M. Smithpeters came to Lockwood High School. With her she brought ideas, principles, and progressive thoughts. Endowed with these qualities, she has worked tirelessly and unselfishly in the Business Department for the betterment of the whole school. Mrs. Smithpeters taught business in high schools for eight years, followed by a ten-year period working at various occupations in Chicago. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Central Missouri State College at Warrensburgg Missouri, and started back to teaching in l9L6. By attending summer schools at Central Missouri State College and Kansas State College, Mrs. Smithpeters earned her Master of Science Degree in 1960. We have learned to appreciate her through her words of counsel and encourage- ment when the road was rough and the journey long. Through her conversations and activities, she has shown her interest in the things that we consider important. To an outstanding teacher and devoted person, the Lockwood Tiger Staff wishes to dedicate the l966 Tiger to Mrs. Zelda M. Smithpeters. Administration With his eyes ever toward the future, Superintendent Donald K. Stamps seldom pauses to look back. Mr. Stamps has had a varied experience background. He taught elementary school for ten years, then became Lockwood Elementary School Principal, a position he held for nine years. Following was a year in the Car- thage Public School System. He became Superintendent of Lockwood R-l Schools in 1958. Mr. Stamps earned his Bachelor's De- gree at Southwest Missouri State College and his Master of Science in General Education from Kansas State College of Pittsburg. He takes a special interest in all those connected with the school--from the youngest grade pupil to the oldest high school student--as well as teachers and others who work for the school. Willa Lasater School Secretary Dedicated to the furthering of Lockwood R-l Schools, Superintendent Stamps stops for a moment to contemplate all the changes that have taken place since he came to the campus. The most recent addition is the new field and track. Board of Education Unselfishness and diligence characterize the work of the six members of the Board of Education of the Lockwood R-1 Schools. With the best interest of the school in mind, these men lead the school forward. The satisfaction of helping public education is the reward for these outstanding men, who work in many fields. Faced with the responsibility of formulating the policies of the school, they strive to make de- cisions that will benefit the school now and in the future years. Ira Fortner President Earl D68-I1 Hlldspeth Harold Mammen Vice-President Secretary Charles F. Lemons Marvin Obert Olin west Treasurer Member Member dedicated themselves to help develop each student's abi 6 High School Faculty Mr. Everett L. Smith became principal of Lockwood High School in 1962. He was previously a teacher, high school coach, and athletic director. Having stu- died at Oakland City College, Oakland City, Indiana, and Kansas State College of Pittsburg, he has earned a B. S. degree in Ed- ucation and an M. S. in Adminis- trative Education. Mr. Smith takes a personal in- terest in each student and is ever ready to assist with indi- vidual problems. Students, as well as faculty members, have a reliable and valued friend in Principal Smith. Aside from his busy schedule, he takes time to sponsor the Stu- dent Council and Senior Class. In every school the important element is the faculty. These teachers have a grave responsibility. They help shape the future of our nation by strengthening the fiber and men- tal abilities of our young people who will make up the gov- ernment of this nation in future years. These teachers play a vital part in shaping capable, responsible citizens for tomorrow's world. The Lockwood High School faculty have lity to the fullest. 'TE? Clinton Story, B.M.E. As an individual one should be conscious of the gains of selective reading for personal satisfaction. Each student can learn to choose wisely in reading and litera- ture. Effective use of language in daily affairs of life will promote mutual understand- ings among social and religious groups. The vocational demands in life include the ability to use the English language ap- propriately, to meet people with poise, and express oneself clearly, whether orally or in writing. Since language may affect the pupil's decisions on national issues, intelligent com- munication promotes good group discussion, thoughtful listening, and powers of per- suasion. an 13355 -zfii .,:. . The high school mathematics curriculum has the following objectives: To help each student to attain the level of mathematical competence which he needs to deal successfully with the problems which he meets now and will face later in life. To develop ability to reason logically and to think critically. To provide a rich background for further mathematical, scientific, and technical training. They were chosen by Mr. Story according to their rank in class. They were: Darlene Wehrman, Janet Stamps, Beverly West, Jeanne Wilson, Amber Hill, and Brenda Kerr. One band member, Keran Lemons, was chosen to take part in the Honors Band. The group enjoyed caroling for the patients of Lockwood Memorial Hospital shortly before Christmas. Participation in Massed Chorus with other area schools and competition in the District Music Festival are the high points of an active year for the Glee Club. Davidson, with fifteen years experience, came to Lockwood in 1962 as principal of the Elementary School. Mr. Davidson has attended sever- al colleges and universities. He earned a B. S. degree in Education from North East State College, Tah- lequah, Oklahoma, and an M. S. in Elementary Administration from Kan- sas State College of Pittsburg. He is an advocate of up-to-date methods of education and has a spe- cial interest in the current trend of improved training in mathematics Mr. Davidson is liked and ad- mired by faculty members as well as pupils. Each one finds him a con- stant guide and friend. The primary concern of elementary school teachers is the development of the strongest possible program for this par- ticular age. The individual child is assured that his pro- gram will be toward the attainment of a general educational foundation at his own rate and capacity. Bonnadell Johnson, B.S. The primary purpose of the beginning band program is to start students on instru- ments, teach them fingering, note read- ing, and rhythm counting. This is the initial experience in playing on a mus- ical instrument for the students and, therefore, must be one of individual en- joyment as well as instructive. In the beginning band, the student learns to cooperate with his fellow students and enjoys making and playing music as a group effort. CADET BAND BEGINNER'S BAND The Cadet Band is the second step in our musical organization. This band is the developing stage where students learn to play more difficult rhythm patterns, to im- prove individual technique, and to enjoy the benefits of a full band experience. Clinton Story, Band Instructor All elementary pupils have the advantage of regular instruction in art. Many beautiful art ob- jects are designed and made at all grade levels.
