ami niJt:t'19 CLASS HISTORY In September of 1944 we, the class of nine- teen hundred antl fifty, entered Lockwood as a bewildered group of youngsters. As we grad- ually became accustomed to our new sur- roundings, we joined in a few of the many activities of the school. Our entry in the jun- ior High Competition Plays was The Little Lamplighterf' The following year we became more active. Our class was represented in the band, orches- tra, dramatics, and in sports. XiVe were getting to know one another better. Our freshman year meant that we were final- ly growing up, for it was our first year of high school. Not Quite Such a Goose, our play, won the junior high competition. Many from the class were elected to the National junior Honor Society, which Lockwood had for the hrst time. A few members of the class won their letters for participation in athleiics. X'Ve elected class oflicers for the first time when we entered the tenth grade. Several of our more talented athletes were fortunate enough to make the first string on the various teams. Many of us participated in the Var- sity Revue and worked on the IfV11i'zui1k1'tr' staff. A few of the girls in the class received their driving licenses through the course in school. XVhen we became juniors we were a much older and wiser group. X'Ve held an afternoon dance in Study Hall, which was the most suc- cessful event of its kind in the school's his- tory. Carnival Time was the name of the dance. Several of the boys were members of the basketball team which became Class C Champions. VVe won the Senior High Compe- tition Plays with Bargains in Cathay. Une of the important events of the year was our Valentine Dance . ln the spring many of us went to the New England Music Festival at Old Orchard Beach. The climax of this eventful year was the combined junior-Senior Ball, which was a great success. NVe were un- able to move into Study Hall at the end of our junior year as had always been the custom, for our class was the largest one in a number of years, and there were not enough seats for us. Finally, in September of 19-19, the event which we had been eagerly awaiting arrived. .-Xt last we were seniors. XVe performed the routine duties of having our pictures taken, choosing rings, electing class officers, and mak- ing other important decisions. Eleven of our boys were members of the football squad which compiled the best record in l.ockwood's history. lVe again won the play competition with lNfrs. O'Leary's Cow . The Varsity Re- vue, Here and There , was very successful and almost the entire class took part in it. .X group of girls from the I'. .X. IJ. class went on a trip to New York to visit the United Nations' headcjuarters. In February we presented the hilarious comedy, Charley's Aunt , under the able direction of Mr. XX'eston. For the second year in succession we had a championship bas- ketball team. XVe succeeded in obtaining a new lfVKllZl'f1'fi'lvf!', in newspaper form, which was a one hundred per tent improvement over the old publication. Many of us attended the various music festivals. .Xfter this the time flew by and before we knew it, the Ball and the banquet had been held and graduation was the only event left for us in our last year of high school. On graduation night we marched sadly down the aisle of the audito- riunt to receive our diplomas, for this was the close of the six happiest years of our lives. Twenty nine
