UNDER THEIR COGNIZANCE IS THE MAINTENANCE AND PRESERVATION OF THE SHIP'S EXTERNAL AREAS, RIGGING, PAINTING, DECK AND BOAT SEAMANSHIP, LINE HANDLING AND FANCYWORK, AND GROUND TACKLE. THE BMS PLAY A MAJOR PART IN UNDERWAY REPLENISHMENT, MANNING BRIDGE AND LOOKOUT WATCHES, AND PROVIDING A MAJOR PORTION OF THE AMMO AND DAMAGE CONTROL REPAIR PARTIES. IN I ' THIS DIVISION IS PERFORMED ALL THE TASKS ESSENTIAL TO KEEPING THE SHIP LOOKING ' HSQUARED AWAY WITH THE SKILLS ACQUIRED OVER 5 A' MORE THAN TWO OENTURIES AT SEA. THEIR IS NO Pj FORMAL SOHOOLING AS FOUND IN OTHER RATES, THE SHIP IS THE SCHOOL AND THE OCEAN THEIR TEACHER.
