THE COUNTLESS UNREPS, ASWEXS, GENERAL QUARTERS AND GONZO OPERATIONS TRANSFORMED THE DEPARTMENT INTO A TEAM OF PROFESSIONALS WHO GAVE A DAMN? THE PRIDE INSTILLED IN WEAPONS' DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL WAS DERIVED FROM HOURS OF HARD WORK AND THOSE SPECIAL MOMENTS OF RELIEF BROUGHT BY DAVY JONES HIMSELF. UNDER THEIR COGNIZANCE IS THE MAINTENANCE AND PRESERVATION OF THE SHIP'S EXTERNAL AREAS, RIGGING, PAINTING, DECK AND BOAT SEAMANSHIP, LINE HANDLING AND FANCYWORK, AND GROUND TACKLE. THE BMS PLAY A MAJOR PART IN UNDERWAY REPLENISHMENT, MANNING BRIDGE AND LOOKOUT WATCHES, AND PROVIDING A MAJOR PORTION OF THE AMMO AND DAMAGE CONTROL REPAIR PARTIES. IN I ' THIS DIVISION IS PERFORMED ALL THE TASKS ESSENTIAL TO KEEPING THE SHIP LOOKING ' HSQUARED AWAY WITH THE SKILLS ACQUIRED OVER 5 A' MORE THAN TWO OENTURIES AT SEA. THEIR IS NO Pj FORMAL SOHOOLING AS FOUND IN OTHER RATES, THE SHIP IS THE SCHOOL AND THE OCEAN THEIR TEACHER.
