This is tl1e first annual Loekridge High School has ever published and we have tried to present a book which truly represents the life of our school. Lack of funds makes it impossible to publish a larger book, and under the circumstances, we feel that we have done our best and that the Golden li will prove an inspiration to its readers and friends. Basketball The Lockridge High School, although the smallest school in the Little Five, is not the least, especially in basketball. Three years they Won the Little Five championship, last year tied for second place, and this year won third place. 'Coach Scott began the season with six letter men, and quite a number of new men to choose from. Practice began the first of December, and on De- cember 3rd, with only three practices, Lockriidge was defeated by -Packwood. liack of practice showed plainly, for the Lockridge boys were unable to hit the basket. The gaime was very rough, and hard fought. After two more weeks' practice, and the team in top-notch shape, Lockridge easily defeated Salem at Salem. The Lockridge players broke through the Salem defense at ease, and seemed to have ai dead eye for the basket. But the cards were against us, for three nights later Rauseher was out of the game with Batavia on ac- count of sickness and Lockridge was defeated by the close score of 17 to 18. The game was fast, with the ball in possession of Lockridge most of the time, but they were unable to hit the basket. On December 22d we lost to Pleasant Plain on their floor. After the holidays R. Rauscher was back again and Loekridge took three straight victories. The first was with Libertyville in a rather one-sided fray, in which the second team played the last quarter of the game. The following week Lockridge battled with snow drifts for seventeen miles to Hillsboro in zero weather, and a reward returned victorious. The game was fast, with both quintets iighting to win. At the end of the time the score was tied at 21. Then a five-minute over- time period was played, and Lockridge was able to score uip one field goal and two free throws, while Hillsboro scored only one free th1'ow, thus ending the game with a score ot' 23 to 25, in favor of Lockrid-ge. One of the best games of the season was with Pleas- ant Plain on our own floor. The teams were evenly matched and each' put up a strong defense, but Lockridge - .- . :- .,:,.,.,. 'ir' Y- I ,E . On lilebrna-ry 28th Packwood again defeated Lock- ridge, this time on our own floor, the Loekridge players being' unable to hit the basket. The next week Loekriclge played their final game of the season with ,l'lillsboro and won by the close seore of 15 to 12. The biggest upset of the season was when Loekridge was defeated by Danville at the 'sub-district tourneunent at Iilairlield 29 to 17. Loekridge won two praetiee games with the Zeta Theta G-wma Frateriiity of Parsons College, one from the Packwood independents and several from the Lock- ridge pirates. H. S. and no letters were awarded, the season was very successful. Lockridge won two of the four games played. The line-up for the season was: Bogner and Duttweiler, Catcher. Rupp, Third Base. Messer, Catcher. Eggenberger, Left Field. W. Rauscher, First Base. C. Zillman and Hickenbottom, R. Rauscher, Second Base. Center Field. Trabert, Short Stop. Danielson, Right Field. L. Zillman and Graff, Subs. Lockridge won the opening game of the season from Batavia at Batavia by a score of 11 to 3. The team showed up well and prospects looked good for a winning team. Two weeks later, on a wet diamond and in a shower of rain, we were defeated by Stockport by a score of 9 to 4. This game was marked by many errors. The following week we again defeated Batavia on our own diamond by a score of 8 to 0. This game was the best game of the season, neither team being able to score for the first five innings. The Lockridge boys then rallied and run in eight scores in the next two innings. In our last game of the season, and also the last High School game for nine players, we again bowed to Stockport by a score of 9 to 4. Tjrach The first track team of the Lockridge High School went to Eldon Saturday, May 7, 1927, to take part in an invitation track meet in which twenty schools were entered. We also entered the sectional meet at Fairfield May 21. This year being our first year of track, and all men without previous experience, Coach Scott has built up a team that can show any school of its size a good race. We hope that in years to come a new track will be built, and all future teams will be successful. The team was composed of the following: Glen Rupp Keith Flood Virgil Trabert Walter Rauscher Charles Hickenbottom Cecil McClain Russell Rauscher Alton Eggenberger Carl Zillnmn Lester Duttweiler John Rockwell Edgar Pierson A.-:ss :uf iw ms E2 as an A A if M A 1 here?
