'lime has given to Mr. YYilliam Sterling the gift of wisdom. I'Ie has guided eight freshman homerooms through four years at L.T.H.S.. and he will begin work with his ninth in the fall of 1957. He has left his imprint upon the minds of thousands of students who can he glad that Mr. Sterling likes kids He has found that any teaching joh would get stale if it were not for the fact that kids are all different, alive. and vital. Mr. Sterling snapped in the mechanical drawing room during one of the moments which have made up thirty-five years of service. Mr. Sterling was born in the southern portion of the state in Pinkneyville, Illinois. Receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree from Illinois State Normal University, he continued his edu- cation at Iowa State where he obtained his Master of Science degree. Mr. Sterling has taught for a total of thirty-six years. I'l.is lirst year in the teaching profession was spent in Villa Grove, Illinois. He came here from there and has lived in Lockport ever since. After teaching woodworking for twenty-eight years, he felt that it would he enjoyable to in- struct another course. When the opportunity presented itself, he switched to full-time instruc- tion in mechanical drawing. Here we find Mr. Sterling, faking a few moments respite from work on his beau tiful mosiac pieces which he does in wood. Mr. Sterling has enjoyed golfing, hunting. and lishing especially when he was able to join his son. Dean. in these activities. He is the father of two children, a daughter. Joanne, and ' his son, Dean, both of whom are married and have made him a grandfather four times over. i l Mr. Sterling has found that time waits for no one. It is just passing through. The hours passing through his life have been used to build the lives of students. thirty-five years of service. 3
