Guiding the hands of our clock was our superintendcnt, James M. Smith, who, with the assistance of twentyfthree faculty members, continued to mold our haickgrounds for future years. 'UEUIUATIUN , iN IVING a life that is indeed a full one, Mr. Edward F. Worst, retired educator, has contrilzuted much, directly and indirectly, to society. His teaching career, which fluctuated lnetween Wlill and Coole Counties, lzegan in the Alexander District in 1887. He has lneen Principal of the Eastern Avenue School in loliet lnow the Marsh Schooll, of the Francis Key, the Bancroft, and the Yale Schools in Chicago, and the loliet City Schools claimed him. as Superintendent for three years. Three years were also spent as a Chicago Teachers College lnstructor. He has supervised lnclustrial Arts in the Chicago Grade Schools and also its High Schools. Mitch of his time has lween spent liberally at Vaughn Hospital and at the Stateville Prison and, at present, he donates four days persweele in teaching Handicraft in two homes for elderly people in Hins- dale. ' Mr. Worst has laeen to Europe seven times, each time specializing in some type of Handicraft which accounts lor his outstanding lznowledge along that line. ln Septemlner, 1909, the Chicago Board of Education sent him to Germany to inspect schools for four months. lOl the European countries, he prefers Norway and Sweden., One can determine from the alaove that Mr. Worst's holnlny is Handie crafts. Eighteen years ago he helped found a Craft House, now the Edd ward F. Worst Craft House, in Penland, North Carolina, alaout sixty miles from Ashville. Although the lneginning ol this institution was minor, it grew so rapidly and proved so popular and worthwhile that now 125 people complete a course everv three weeles. He has been a memlzer of the Loclzport Grade School Board for forty- five years and of the High School Board for seventeen years, ten of which he has lneen President of the latter. lt can well lne seen that Mr. Worst has had few idle moments. To this civiceminded leader and highly respected citizen, we, the class of 1947, proudly dedicate mllhe l.oclQ.H
