Little did we know of the ee. sv- many joys, honors, and friendships the next ,Q an ' twelve years had in store for us. Miss Laura h W Hilliard and Miss Ernita Bartels were there to !::i,E welcome us and start us on the long road of ew learning. At first we were a little shy of ,QSM the many strange boys and girls, but soon we had formed lasting friendships. What fun we had learning about HSpot, Dick, and Janen. Soon our first grade days were over and we approached the second grade with eagerness. Who can ever forget the fun of buying groceries Carolyn Barber in Mies wi111e Lynn's Hlittle storen? Mies Andy Barentin Copeland was also an important person in this period of our life. We thought we were really important when we had a Duke and Duchess to represent our grade in the May Fete. We spent most of our first two years in school playing, but we soon found that there was going to be a change as we entered the third grade. Miss Willie Lynn and Miss Terry kept us quite busy. We thought we were very brilliant when we learned all about birds, Eskimos, and Africa. We also began writing instead of printing! Then we were fourth graders! Will we ever forget the many times we played Hpush offu and made houses in the bushes at recess? Troy Belver Barbara Bodema Anthonv Rnnknwski Bobbv Brown Karl Brown Marv Ann Call! FUN r 'W nmiro Carrizales loden Caruthers K Patsy Chesser This year much time was spent studying geography in Miss Grigsby's and Miss Bess Randel's rooms. We entered the fifth grade just a little bit afraid of Miss Bessie Smith, but she soon captured a place close to our hearts. How important it was to win a gold star in spelling every Friday! This year many of the girls in our grade dressed as galardias for the May Fete. We had a lot of fun, although we considered ourselves too old for such things. Miss Laas also led us through this eventful year. In the sixth grade our class was large enough to divide into three rooms. Mrs. Naomi Lipscomb, Mr. Hastings, and Mrs. Harris were our capable teachers. Much of our school time was spent study- ing Europe. Girl friend and boy friend lists were all the rage. We were really grown up now. We even fell in love, although it seldom lasted more than two weeks at a time! Mr. Hastings' kangaroo courts became famous, too. We were just a little bit jealous of Junior High, but, determined not to be outdone, we had our own football team! That year passed quickly, and then we were actually in Junior High! will we ever forget all the fun and friend- ships of these two years? We were really important now! Many of the eighth graders became our good friends. Although we thought we were very important, we really looked up to the High School students. This year our class proudly boasted two cheerleaders, two majorettes, and twelve football players. We were sure that L.J.H.S. had never had a Junior Band, Pepsquad, and Midget football team as great as ours. We changed classes and had home rooms. It was also a time of social activity in which our square dance club took the lead. We square danced every Saturday night, and afterward danced to hit tunes such as uBecause of Youn and NS1nH. Although we hated to see the other class leave without us, we were proud to take our places as eighth graders. This year Mr. Bicknell Joined us as Junior High principal and science teacher. We had a Junior High Student Council and Chorus this year. We were coming up in the world as our class had three cheerleaders, three majorettes, and sixteen football players. We also had many active members in the Junior High Band and Pepsquad. An important event this year was learning to drive. This was a year for parties, and we were especially proud of the going-away party the seventh grade gave us at the end of school. Although we enjoyed Junior High, we were looking forward to becoming a part of high school. The summer passed quickly, and it d1dn't take us long to realize that we were Wilma Fortman Martin Grantham Inez Epprigh' an ai t 1,15 Donald Farme Barbara Fisch K 5 5 s 52? How we fussed about wearing our clothes back- ward, lipstick, chewing tobacco, and dolls, but we loved every minute of the attention we were getting. After the first two weeks of this, we felt that we really deserved our title of Freshmen. will we ever forget all the fun of our first year in high school! Now we could attend the victory dances and all high school activities. Most of our class joined several organization, and we were especially proud to be members of the Maroon Jackets, Band, and Football team. We elected our first set of Officers and began making money for the Senior trip in we were men, we As we were the distant future. Although a little in awe of the upperclass- began to make a name for ourselves. we entered our Sophomore year, well set in the pattern of high school life. Determined to make money, we sponsored a Sadie Hawkins Sock Hop which was a big success. We still aren't sure what happened to the millions of coat hangers we collected, but we had fun anyway. Money was made on booths at the Halloween Carnival, and bake sales were not uncommon this year. This was a time of fun with all the pep-rallies, football games, bus trips, and special events. Our class entered into all major events in high school, and also boasted quite a few honors. Lillian Kanemeier wayne Kieke Billy Hermon Rob Hewlett Alice Homano Gail Livengood fl Q, Billie Jean Lock Each year in high school had been more fun, and we eagerly and proudly accepted the role of Juniors. There are so many things to remember---what should we write first! One of our outstanding memories is HIn the Moodn leading us to the B1-District champ- ionship. What a wonderful football season and banquet we had! Of course the Junior play and Junior-Senior Banquet are never-to-be-forgotten events! Our play, Out of the Fr in Pan, was a great succesE'beEldes being a lEt'of fun to plan and practice for. What hidden talent we discovered! Naturally we thought our Junior-Senior Banquet was a little extra- special. For one night the cafeteria was changed into an ocean liner, and the uests landed at a South Sea island fthe gym? complete with palm trees, volcanoes, Hawaiian music, and star-studded sky. It was as much fun to plan and decorate as to be at the banquet, and our work was well rewarded with the looks of surprise on the Seniors' faces. The many hours spent making sand- wiches for the concession stands and decorating the gym for victory dances are other things to be remembered. On the day of graduation we spent our time collect- ing daisies and ivy for the chain of knowledg That night we proudly took on the privileges and responsibilities of Seniors, although we hated to see so many of our friends graduate. Pasco Martin Now at last we have reached the top rung rc on the ladder---Seniors---l956. It hardly Katy Mojica fl' slli G .tl Jimmie Faye McMa Antonia Mojic Glenn Nolte Ive' Ngzb, Arthur Odom Bobby Ohlendorf George Ohlendorf KEY Pastrano -R' 1.515 ,Jean Pggtgf- Gayle Pfeiffer seems possible that these twelve happy years have come to a close. So many things have ,, combined to make this truly our best year. 13' These we will always remember no matter how far away we may be. Our Senior rings, which have been standard for several years, seem to be a little special for us. We will always remember the pride we felt as the Lions pushed their way to the State Quarter-Finals--the first time in the history of Lockhart High School! Never to be forgotten is the way we worked together on our Christmas card and magazine sales to top all records. The special events, such as the Football Banquet, Sweetheart Dance, Lee Resendez Junior--Senior Banquet, and the Senior play will always be remembered. Heading the list will be the Senior parties and trip, exemp- tions, friendships, pep-rallies, games, our last assembly, and graduation. The happy times and disappointments, work, fun, and co-opera- tion our class has shared through the years will truly be Moments to Remember . Patricia Pond And now we look expectantly ahead to the future we have been preparing for during the last twelve years. Feeling that we have made our high school days worthwhile, we face the lives before us with hope and confidence. l Joe Reyes Linda Riddle David Robinson Bubba ROSS Mary Louise Ruiz Alex Sanchez Joe Sanchez Royce Schuelke Jerome Schuetzeoerg David Schulze CLASS MOTTO Nothing is impossible for God will provide 'gill QE' ex ibm?
