92 BOYS ' SWIMMING TEAM TAKES POOL BY STORM idM mm Z 1 fhree Swimming, down through the ages, has been the favorite sport ot all who love water. Now in California, swimming has taken on a more competitive edge, and Loara is right up with the trend. Our staunchest water-lovers have joined together and formed Loara ' s varsity and Frosh-Soph teams. Led by coach Dan Cullinane and assistant coaches Paul Chylinski, Mark Lake, and Jeff Nelson, the swimmin ' Saxons made the most of the season. Outstanding, studly varsity speedo-wearers included Brian Blacketer, Darrow Linder, Scott Talkovic, Chris Davis, Maher Syada, Mitch Hawkins, Adrian Stingaciu, Charles Makres, and freshman Chris Post. Our Junior swimmers were Todd Stefani, Chris Cam- pellone, Jamie Pietras, and many super cool others. And not only are they great swimmers, they ' re great guys, too. They know the meaning of the word team- work and stuck together through chlorine and concrete. They kept the competi- tive spirit alive through the many hours of rigorous practice, challenging yet nerve wracking meets, and the ever-popular torturous bus rides one inevitably encoun- ters when one swims competitively. These long arduous bus rides were made wonderful by group song. So as the sun sank down behind the horizon, Loara High School Swimmers finished their practices and felt fulfilled as they went to sleep with wrinkled fingers. four E ' i w five

94 LADY SAXONS RULE THE POOL WITH ELEGANCE three H ere we have the wonderful 1988-89 Saxon swimming women. Through vigorous training, these fine young ladies mastered and perfected all .aspects of the aquatic sport. Many hours before, during, and after school were put into achieving such greatness. These girls suffered through strenuous workouts, harsh ultraviolet rays, and drying chlorinated water in order to receive strong, powerful, tan bodies that glided swiftly through the water to bring them to victory. One could view their great timing and precision in the butterfly and breast stroke, which were demonstrated in the Loara pool and during the exciting meets. The 1988-89 swim season was much shorter than usual, so the swimmers were frequently kept busy with more than one meet a week. Even though the swim season was a short one, it proved to be rewarding. Coach Dan Cullinane and assistant coaches Paul Chylinsky, Mark Lake, and Jeff Nelson were the driving forces behind the swimming team. With their dedicated guidance and persistence, Loara ' s swimmers learned from helpful demonstra- tion, special pointers, and occasional voice inflections. Team members proved the many obvious similarities between woman and fish. four
