Under new head coach, Mark Lake, the Saxons began to rebuild, placing third in their first tournament of the year. Lead by team captain Son Luc, who was the only four-year wres- tler on the team, the Grapplers placed third in the Magnolia tour- nament. In the Edison Eight-Way tournament, Aaron Mduenda, Jeff Taylor, Son Luc. and Rocha Gustavo finished as runners up. Other outstanding wrestlers were Jim Leonard, Andy Hall, Steve Hall, Dan Bokelman, Steve Nitao, and Steven Whitford. The Saxon Wrestling program has always depended upon the Ju- nior Varsity Team to produce good wrestlers. This year ' s J.V. wrestlers certainly accom- plished that. This season, the J.V. team compiled an impres- sive record of 10 wins against 2 losses. Under a new assis- tant coach, Carlos Barrientos, the team ended their season in second place in the Empire League. The J.V. Grapplers achieved third place in the Buena tournament. Gary Tay- lor lead the team with an im- pressive eight pins! Gary also took third in the Laguna tour- nament. Other outstanding performers were Mike Gastillo, who placed second in the Magnolia tournament, and Dennis Washburn, who per- formed consistently.
