- f ft r: ft Throughout the season, Coach Nancy Beatty consid- ered the girls on her soccer teams to be a family. As a family, the teams worked together during good times and bad for the goals of cooperation and victory. This year certainly provided many obstacles for the girls, but they definitely had the right stuff. Pre-season was a source of high hopes, as the team came through with six wins and two losses. League competition proved to be much more difficult. Several key players were out with injuries and illnesses the entire year, which meant the rest of the players had to take up the slack. Special strength was added to the teams by outstanding indivi- duals. Melanie Midani, senior and forward on the field, assisted in 17 goals for the Varsity, while Melissa Egger was the team ' s leading scorer with 10 goals. Senior Kelly Graton aided as goalie, while freshman Christy Rowe supported the team in all positions. Another freshman, Anna Klein, took charge of the field on the Varsity team. JV also had its share of talent, including freshmen Nissi Lapihuska and Dana Mal- comb. In the end, however, it was the cooperation and talent of all of the players that held the team to- gether. Even after all the ordeals, the 1988-89 year was the best season ever for girls ' soccer. According to Coach Beatty. this was due to the teams ' eventual understanding and practice of playing with heart for the goal of excellence. . 198889 JV Team (LR): K. MacDonald. N. Lapihuska, R.
