62 F S FOOTBALL TEAMS WIN RESPECT rffiJM v •- ' The ' 88- ' 89 Sophomore Football Team was led by Coach Halpin and Coach Moore, who prepared the team for a victorious season. As the Sophomores defeated Anaheim 27-0, Los Al 43-0, and Katella 35-0, they proved how serious they were about winning. The Sophomore Team was gifted with many tal- ented athletes. Tail back Luigi Gagow, who received the Most Valuable Back Award, broke the sophomore record for most yards gained in a single game with 293 yards. Other talented athletes on the team were Charlie Gipson, who received the M.V.P. Award; Erich Munzner, who re- ceived the Coaches ' Award; David Kang and Mike Obenshain, who received the Most Inspirational Awards; and John Kar- rer, who received the Most Valuable Re- ceiver Award. The team finished the sea- son with eight wins and two losses. Coach Johnson led the ' 88-89 Freshman Football Team, and was assisted by Coach Bob, Coach Okabe, and Coach Clester. Even though the Freshman Team finished with two wins and eight losses, they gained valuable experience during their season. Bryant Jackson and Bryan Blanks each made a touchdown in a close victory over Anaheim with a 13-12 score. Against Los Al, Mister Albritton made a touchdown on an option play, and Bryant Jackson scored on a running play. An interception by Mis- ter Albritton set up a Chris Valentin field goal, which was the winning score. The fi- nal score against Los Al was 15-3. The Freshman team also had many gifted ath- letes: Mister Albritton. Most Valuable Back; Adam Hernandez, Most Valuable Line; and Brian Blanks, who averaged 120 yards per game.
