Janet Evans Looking back at the 1988-89 school year, we notice many noteworthy events in our country. At the Olympics, athletes like Janet Evans, Greg Louganis, and Matt Biondi brought back not only med- als but also pride to our country. Then late in 1988, the presidential elec- tion was held. George Bush was elected president and was inaugurated in Janu- ary The new president had to tace issues concerning AIDS, the homeless, the de- fense budget, the national deficit, and the problems of the American farmer.
