For each workshop group, there was a program instructor to lead discussions on political topics. Two days were spent at sub- committee hearings and Senate House of Representatives sessions, where voting con- cerning the 51% Congressional pay was discussed. Among the many fascinating monuments and places visited by the group were Capitol Hill, the old Supreme Court Senate building, Statuary Hall, and the Li- brary of Congress. Other places such as the Smithsonian, the Air and Space Museum, and the Museum of Natural Modern Histo- ry were toured by students during their free time. Students had an opportunity to visit the J. Edgar Hoover FBI Building, Washing- ton Monument, and the Lincoln, Jefferson, and Veterans ' Memorials. Close-Up ended with a farewell dance and banquet. Students gained an inter- esting experience rooming with each oth- er and an unforgettable memory of their Capitol. Insik Rhee stated that Washing- ton gave me a first-hand view of our politi- cal structure and allowed me to take part and observe many aspects of the gov ' t. The experience was well worth the money and most unprecedented. Being a Close- Up kid was fantastic! Brian Cowan is excited about meeting our 31st Congressional District Representative. 190 CLOSEUP PARTICIPANTS DISCOVER WASH. D.C. This year ' s Close-Up had more partici- pants than ever before. On February 4th, Mr. Dorosky and 19 students went to Washing- ton, D.C, for seven exciting days. Close-Up is an organization established to give high school students an opportunity to exper- ience the political process as an insider. Students started the week with an intense visit of Washington. During the day, the Close-Up group attended seminars which ranged from various topics of Presidency, defense and constitutional rights; and at night, the group attended work shops, which involved in-depth sessions with small groups. three five
