world. The Loara Key Club, more specifical- ly, is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Greater Anaheim. Key Clubs provide oppor- tunities for developing leadership and for building moral character. The Club was much more active this year, with many successful projects and activities. Throughout most of the year our Key Club- bers went to the Buena Vista Convalescent Home. They talked with and gave wheelchair walks to many of the senior citizens. During the winter holidays, the Key Club wrapped gifts to earn money for the Anaheim Shelter for the Homeless. They also went to Pasade- na and became petal pushers to help decorate the floats of the Rose Parade. Key Club helped the Academic Booster Club with World Celebrations, by setting- up and recruiting cultural acts, which contri- buted to the success of International Night. The Mother and Daughter Tea and Student Recognition Night were also assisted by the Club. Teacher Administration Appreciation Week was jointly headed by the Key Club and Key Club International. During the week members sent gifts to the entire staff of Loara. Duy Nguyen stated, What Key Clubbers learn goes beyond high school. They learn to be charitable while becoming more effective leaders. 188 KEY CLUB INCREASES SPIRIT AND DEDICATION This is only the second year the Key Club had been at Loara. They jumped from a mere 26 charter mem- bers their first year to staggering 130 indivi- duals this year. Donna Perry was the faculty adviser during both years. This year ' s offi- cers were Duy Nguyen, President; Jennifer Smietana, Vice-President; Camelia Mazard, Secretary; Augustina Norris. Treasurer. There were also many directors who volun- teered their time to head some of the major projects undertaken by our Key Club. The word Key is an acronym for Kiwanis Educates Youth. Kiwanis Interna- tional founded the first Key Club, and is now the sponsor of Key Clubs throughout the four

190 CLOSEUP PARTICIPANTS DISCOVER WASH. D.C. This year ' s Close-Up had more partici- pants than ever before. On February 4th, Mr. Dorosky and 19 students went to Washing- ton, D.C, for seven exciting days. Close-Up is an organization established to give high school students an opportunity to exper- ience the political process as an insider. Students started the week with an intense visit of Washington. During the day, the Close-Up group attended seminars which ranged from various topics of Presidency, defense and constitutional rights; and at night, the group attended work shops, which involved in-depth sessions with small groups. three five
