The 1988-89 Loara Auto Club had a very impressive year. Aside from their many per- sonal projects, they built a dune buggy from the ground up, with nothing to build on but a roll cage. They completed the entire project in only a week and a half. One of the most impressive projects they worked on was the engine and transmission of a custom 1927 Ford Model T roadster valued at $40,000! Instead of gathering at lunch or after school, the hard-working and knowledgeable mem- bers met during either fifth or sixth period. Some members even attended both periods in order to log more time on their tasks. 184 LOARA BIKE CLUBS KEEP AND AUTO IT ROLLING Although getting off to a late start in its third year, the Bike Club resumed its weekly rides with renewed vigor and a host of new members. Concentrating on variety, each ride this year followed a unique route. This year ' s treks have taken the Club on adventures to O ' Neil Park, Whittier Nar- rows Dam, a 100-mile tour of Riverside, and an overnight trip on which the riders camped at Doheny beach after a day ' s pedaling. Rid- ing together so often forged camaraderie in the club, bringing together students from all grades. While the hardened bikers con- quered many difficult routes, a slow group was formed for the less experienced. The club has never left anyone behind and occa- sionally conducted easy rides to attract new members. P
