POWDER PUFF SHOWS THE SPIRIT AND PRIDE OF IT ALL eight Yes, Sammy Saxon, the senior and junior girls met again in a game of foot- ball known as Powder Puff. After many grueling practices, the girls were ready to strut their stuff. The crowd, too, was ready for the game. The student body, faculty, and parents cheered wildly for the teams. The seniors, coached by Steve Nichols, Darren Van Zee, Chris Snelling, John Bush and Shonn Clancy, started the game with much power and zeal. The juniors also showed their strength. They were coached by Sean Conner, B rett Banta, Chris Jensen, Taba- shi Price and Manual Alvarez. After control of the ball tee- tered back and forth between the two teams, the juniors finally took over. Team 90 scored first when Jackie Rosas intercepted a pass and ran the ball all the way down to the end zone. During the sec- ond half of the game, the juniors scored again. Just before the fi- nal whistle, junior Dawn Swartwood scored the final touchdown. From this point on, Team 90 never looked back. De- spite injuries to seniors Melanie Midani and Megan Boyle, the Un- touchables kept Team 90 on their feet with their skill and en- thusiasm. The Untouchables had the intensity to score, but when all was said and done, Team 90 proved to be the better of the two. 165

eight HULA HAWKINS CHANGES THE WAYS OF THE PAST In 1988-89 Loara broke free from the Sadie Hawkins tra- ditions of the past. Horses and spurs were left at home. Beach attire was readily avail- able, creating a Hawaiian aura that was Hula Hawkins. Once again, this event was sponsored by the benevolence and generos- ity of the senior class who pro- vided a vast array of activities to keep even the most wearisome of students entertained. Events in- cluded an intricate limbo contest and a never-ending conga line. A multitude of refreshments were provided to quench the thirst of even the most avid of dancers as DJ ' s played a variety of music. This episode proved to be in the excellent taste that is customary of Loara ' s Senior Class. 167
