LOARA ' S MIGHTY BAND IS MAGIC MUSIC MARCHING The harmonious sounds of success rang loudly from fhe many victories of the 1988-89 Loara Saxon Band. Led by the connoisseur of conduct- ing, director Bill Schroeder, the band entertained its audiences with a thrilling program that in- cluded such songs as Calva- cade, Big Spender, Crown Imperial, and the drum solo. These songs, combined with flashy drill moves, made the field season a memorable one. The parade band was no less determined to present its finest performance, which it achieved through a gruelling combination of persistence and devotion. The band was challenged by the musical difficulty of Army of the Nile. Michelle Tober, the Drum Major, kept the band in line and led them triumphantly through competitions. Not only did these fine musi- cians have to learn the complex- ities of field performance, but also had to develop an ear for the minute details which are neces- sary for a concert band of Loara ' s caliber. All of the band members look forward to the concert season, the time of year when they can express their true musicianship. The numbers of incoming band members never cease to in- crease. In future years, we can expect the band ' s numbers to break over 200 members. Every- one is eager to see and hear this monstrous band, which will carry on the Saxon tradition. 159
