A BREAK FROM TRADITION SAXON HOMECOMING 88 k 4 Ht T SK9lj L V ■ w- 1 H • ik J ■ L % B§ : gil m% IT Rv w A iL Homecoming ' 88 certainly took a twist from tradi- tion. This year ' s varsity football team waged a tough war against the Cypress Centurions which resulted in a tied score of 0-0. At half-time, all eyes turned to- ward the colorful floats which re- presented each class. The class senators spent hard but reward- ing hours after school to create floats worthy of the royalty they carried. This year ' s Homecoming Court not only consisted of the tradi- tional queen and princesses, but also included a king as well as princes. Craig Beltran, Adam Dove, Im- ron Hussain, and Mark Plettinck made up the senior court with Bil- ly Kang as their king. Princes Vince Carpino, freshman; Dan Bokelman, sophomore; and Rob- ert Garcia, junior, represented their classes gallantly while ac- companying their beautiful prin- cesses. Queen Nicole Conner most definitely deserved the crown presented to her on that momen- tous occasion. Not only was she involved in ASB and cheer, but she was also a valuable member of the Loara band. King Kang was no less involved in activities than his ambitious queen. He, too, was a member of the ASB cabinet and band, as well as a valuable athlete. These two complimented each other nicely and were fine exam- ples of Saxon pride and ele- gance. 141

right ASB AROUSES THE SPIRIT OF SAXONS IN 1988-89 The 1988-89 ASB cabinet led Loara to success. Headed by an exper- ienced president, Yvette Brink, this ASB group began the year with hard work and determina- tion while aiming to conquer the many tasks appointed to them. In addition to their many duties on campus, ASB cabinet mem- bers are required to maintain a 2.0 GPA, which is rather difficult, considering the many hours they spend organizing assemblies and making students aware of many ASB planned activities. Some of these activities included themed dress-up days throughout the year, fantastic assemblies such as our famous Homecoming As- sembly, a series of lunchtime ac- tivities, spirit week, and several student awareness weeks that brought to light the many prob- lems and concerns of high school students. Though many of the students in this year ' s cabinet are new ASB members, they have contin- ued the Saxon tradition with spirit and perserverence. Though their job is often demanding and time consuming, it is a fun and valu- able experience in leadership and organization. This year ' s ASB worked together to bring Loara to greatness in its most success- ful year yet. 143
