LOARA DURING PRODUCES STARS ANNUAL MUSICAL! Loara ' s 1989 musical pro- duction Viva Las Vegas was a story of students banding together to achieve a common goal. It seemed that Loara ' s princi- pal, Dr. Jerry Glenn, had recently won the Calitornia State Lottery to the tune of $40 million. He re- tired to the fun and sun of the Mexican Carribean. However, this win bankrupted the entire Anaheim Union High School Dis- trict, and particularly Loara High School. Act One took place at a district school board meeting where Loara students picketed and pro- tested the closure of the school. The Board was firm in its stand to close Loara, when someone ran in to announce a talent show in Las Vegas, with a first prize of $40 million. The Loara Perform- ing Arts Department decided to go to Las Vegas to win the con- test and save Loara. Acts two and three had the students in Las Vegas seeing a lounge show and a casino in ac- tion to get ideas for their talent show presentation. Act four was the talent compe- tition at Caesar ' s Palace. Loara presented music representing the Southern California lifestyle - a medley from the musical Les Miserables, a surfing medley, and a selection of tunes from our own Disneyland. Although the competition was close. Loara won the $40 million and saved the District and Loara from Bankruptcy. The show closed with the entire cast sing- ing Viva Las Vegas. 127

128 Nicole Conner and her two spirited Saxon mascots led us through another winning year at Loara. Stephanie Quintana and Holly Jacobson were our two proud Sammy Sax- ons. Together they all worked to give our pep assemblies and pep rallies a feeling of excitement. At games they cheered our teams, whether they won or lost. This past summer, Holly and ■ Stephanie attended USA camp and returned with a spirit stick, (an award for their hard work), a special unity medal for working together, and two superiors in judging. Holly is quoted as say- ing, I feel being a mascot dis- plays my school spirit, and I have a lot of fun doing it, too! Nicole ' s goal as pep commis- sioner was to get as many people as possible involved and full of spirit. She also tried to unify the band and the cheerleaders by leading cheers to the band ' s pep music. To sum it up, all three tal- ented girls put their hearts into bringing Loara more spirit, pride, and unity, and they did an excel- lent job. three NICOLE, STEPHANIE, AND HOLLY GENERATE SPIRIT
