116 88-89 J.V. BASEBALL HITS AND RUNS The 1988-89 Loara J.V. Baseball Team had the best start of any team in the Empire League with a 3 and 1 record. During the season there were two outstanding pitchers, Mike Gar- gano and Kyle Poffenburger, while Char- lie Gipson lead the team in stolen bases. Head Coach Ray Moore was assisted by Dan Trubiroha. The J.V. Team had some tough times during the year, but they pulled through tor several wins at the end of the season. four

118 F S WORKS TO EARN RECOGNITION The 1988-89 F S baseball team had an exciting season. They demonstrated excellent hitting and fielding abilities, enabling them to do well in their league games. The team commenced their season by splitting a double-header with Magnolia. In their next game, the F S team had a big win against University High. This year ' s squad consisted of players with big hearts and talents. With only eight sophomores, the team was comprised mostly of freshmen. Standout performers were infielders Vince Carpino and Pat Lockhart. Vince also led the team in hitting with a batting aver- age of .330. The team was able to keep other teams ' offense quiet with great pitching from Andrew Bois- bert, Ryan Heise, and Kelly Poffen- berger. 1. The 19881989 F S Baseball Team. 2.
