Jeff Cordon delivers a deceptive pitch. 12 Keeping first base under control is Rusty Tamblyn. --. eleven The Scrappin ' Saxons started off their season with enormous strength and a powerful attitude. Under the guidance of head coach Rob Megill and assistant coaches Jerry Halpin and Dave Greenlee, the players showed a promising ability to take the team far in the Empire League. The team practiced many hours a week to meet the expectations of their coaches. The key players on the team were Matt Drager, Eric Smith, Joey Gaudio, Kenny Williams, and Chris Hoffman. Those players showed a tremendous amount of hard work and vigor. The other players also worked very hard and showed their pride and determination in making the Scrappin ' Saxons one of the strongest teams in their league. The key parts of the team ' s performance were the returning players ' knowledge of the game, and the new members ' hitting ability and speed. The 1989 Scrappin ' Saxons members were Eric Smith, Mike Fonseca, Rusty Tamblyn, Randy Halcomb, Kenny Williams, Matt Drager, John Beck, Bill Mc Reynolds, Jeff Gordon, Joey Gaudio, Damon Riddle, Mike DesRoches, Czach Hallock, Matt Kandy, Ellick Hsu, Mike Obenshain, Erich Munzner, Jim Ballard, Chris Hoffman, and Andy Hall. 116 88-89 J.V. BASEBALL HITS AND RUNS The 1988-89 Loara J.V. Baseball Team had the best start of any team in the Empire League with a 3 and 1 record. During the season there were two outstanding pitchers, Mike Gar- gano and Kyle Poffenburger, while Char- lie Gipson lead the team in stolen bases. Head Coach Ray Moore was assisted by Dan Trubiroha. The J.V. Team had some tough times during the year, but they pulled through tor several wins at the end of the season. four
