106 VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM DELIVERS three « T en laps! Go! Coach Gary Blate told his girls at the beginning of almost every practice. By working hard and not com- plaining, the girls of this year ' s Varsity Team learned to be mentally as well as physically tough. Skillful, serious, and determined are words that describe the eight-member team. Though quite small, the team had great success and possessed experience as they had six returning players. The Seniors on the team were Heidi Sorour, Melanie Sparks, Michelle Roland, Lisa Nitao, and Kim Yo- shioka. The Juniors were Traci Berven and Jennifer Leonard, and the only Sophomore was Tracy Titus. Over the summer and throughout the season, the team became increasingly close. Spending more than twenty hours a week together, the team played like sisters, fought like sisters and, in a sense, be- came sisters. All of the players agree that they have matured tremendously and have become better bas- ketball players, and, most importantly, better people. four
