102 WORK AND DESIRE PAY OFF FOR THE J.V. TEAM The spirited Junior Varsity basketball team had a winning season due to their desire to win. The team began the year with a slow start but, under the guidance ot Coach Luke Harrison, they constantly improved. The players practiced daily after school and in their tree time, working on new techniques which made the team and the game much more exciting. One of the most exciting games the Junior Varsity team played was against Los Al. The J.V. Saxons were behind in the first half, scoring only 22 points. Then after a quick pep talk from Coach Harrison during halftime, the fired-up players were ready to face the Griffins in the second half. The Saxons played an exciting half and won by a score of 52-44. The J.V. team was led by Mike Acosta (most valuable player), Jason Chadbourne, and William Kuai. In addition, Jason and William served as co-captains. Loara ' s Junior Varsity team was the only team to defeat first-place Cypress. Over the course of the season the players showed exception- al effort. The players should be commended for all the hard work they put into their team to make it the best it could be. lour five

104 F S SQUADS EXHIBIT SKILL AND GRIT The 1988-89 Fresh- man Basketball Team intimated even the best in the Empire League. Under their new coach, Jaime Anderson, the members on the team were able to contribute their own attributes to make this season an excep- tional one. Some ot the leading players on the team were Ron Harris, who led in assists; Pete Gonzalez, who was the top scorer on the team; and Drew Hubbard, whose swiftness and height the team greatly depended on. This young team showed perseverance and grit, making this year sen- sational. Headed by the new coach, Chuck Livesay, the Sophomore basketball team had a flourishing year. The team was led by team captains John Carr, who had the most rebounds, and Glen Maggio. Mike Klean proved to be an out- standing shooter for the team. The players showed an abundance of character and will — characteristics needed to make a winning team. four
