This year ' s Girls ' s JV Softball Team was coached by Miss Watts, who stressed the im- portance of team unity. Motivated by a great spirit, the team trained 2V2 hours daily. The seventeen play- ers and three managers invested a lot of effort, but lacked the neces- sary experience of excel in the tough Empire League. They learned what it meant to play as a single unit and to sacrifice themselves for the benefit of the team. Among the most outstanding players was Tricia Wedekind, who played catcher, shortstop, and pitcher. The exceptionally young team did improve in many aspects of the game. However, their success was not measured in wins but rather in the enjoyment of the game. thirteen 99

100 LOARA ' S VBB CREATES EXCITEMENT The Basketball season once again brought out the Saxon pride in all of us. Consistently, the players demon- strated their tenacity and skill, producing ex- citing games through- out the year. The players not only gained experience from each game, but also learned the importance of cooperation. The team was not com- prised of individuals but rather a unit working as one. Each member contributed greatly to the accomplishments of this year ' s team. The team consisted of only seven players, proving the adage that quality supersedes quantity. Good defense and ball handling were exhibited by seniors Lam Tran and Curt Fin- gal, this year ' s team captain. High scorers were senior Mike Cooney and junior Joe Gaudio. Joe also pro- vided the most re- bounding and power play, along with senior Brad Leonard. Junior El lick Hsu provided most of the scoring from the three-point line. Sophomore Tes Whitlock is one of the best all-around players in Orange County; per- petually, Tes exhibited skillful ball handling, creative scoring, and power playing. Coach Meylor confi- dently stated, Through dedication, desire, the basketball program at Loara can become one of the best in the county. three four
