V. VOLLEYBALL GIRLS BUMP, SET, SPIKE, AND WIN y — OUR 1987-1988 VARSITY VOLLEYBALL TEAM PLAYED EXCEPTIONALLY WELL CON- SIDERING THE INEXPERIENCE OF ITS NEW MEMBERS. THROUGH THIS YEAR ' S SEASON, THE PLAYERS GAINED HELPFUL AND VALU- ABLE EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS, BOTH OF WHICH WILL BE NEEDED FOR FUTURE SUC- CESS. THE TEAM, COACHED BY MIKE HINTON, CONSISTED OF THREE SENIORS, THREE JU- NIORS, AND THREE SOPHOMORES. THEY ALL DEDICATED THEMSELVES AND STROVE FOR HIGHER ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFOR- MANCES. THE PLAYERS FINISHED THE SEASON WITH CONFIDENCE AND SUPERIOR TEAM WORK. THEY ARE NOW DEFINITELY READY FOR SUC- CESS AND VICTORIES IN THE NEXT YEAR ' S SEASON.

THE 1987 FROSH SOPH WATERPOLO TEAM HAD A TERRIFIC SEASON. THE TEAM, WITH A WINNING YEAR IN ' 86. FINISHED WITH 14 WINS AND 8 LOSSES IN ' 87. THE TEAM PRACTICED EVERYDAY AFTER SCHOOL FOR OVER THREE HOURS. THEY PRACTICED THEIR FUNDAMENTALS AND WORKED ON CONDITIONING. ALL THIS PRAC- TICE PAID OFF FOR THE TEAM AS THEY DEFEATED TEAMS RANKED HIGHER IN THE STANDINGS. THE TEAM WAS COACHED BY TWO ALUMNI EDWARD DROSKI AND DON LUETHKE. THIS YEAR ' S TEAM CONSISTED OF MANY INDIVIDUAL TALENTS OUTSTANDING PLAYERS, ACCORDING TO COACHES, WERE MAHER SYADA, CHRIS DAVIS, DARROW LINDER, KELLY COOLEY, AND BRIAN BLACKETER. COACH DON LUETHKE SAID, CLOSE LOSSES TO TOP-RANKED EMPIRE LEAGUE TEAMS INDICATED THAT NEXT YEAR ' S VARSITY TEAM WILL BE CONTENDING FOR FIRST PLACE IN THE LEAGUE AND POSSIBLY MOVE INTO THE OF PLAYOFFS. i ■ The 1987 Frosh Soph Vorerpolo ream.
