THE 1986-1987 SAXON SHIELD STAFF SUPPLIED LOARA STUDENTS WITH A WELL-WRITTEN NEWSPAPER EACH MONTH. EACH EDITION OF THE SHIELD CONTAINED ARTICLES ON A BROAD RANGE OF TOPICS. THE SHIELD WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL IN INFORMING THE LOARA STUDENTS OF ALL THE LATEST NEWS, OPINIONS, AND ISSUES. BESIDES ITS REGULAR ARTICLES, THE SHIELD ALSO CONTAINED NEW FEA- TURES, DISPLAYING THE TALENT OF THE STAFF. THE NEWEST FEATURE TO HIT THE SHIELD WAS SAMMY SAYS. THIS AD- VICE COLUMN OFFERED HELP AND SYM- PATHY TO THOSE STUDENTS WHO SENT IN THEIR PROBLEMS. AS AN ADDED BONUS TO THE MONTH- LY NEWSPAPERS, THE SHIELD STAFF ALSO PRODUCED ITS ANNUAL PUBLICA- TION OF INTERACTION. THE STAFF WAS ABLE TO USE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO UTILIZE THEIR CREATIVITY AND WRIT- ING SKILLS. MRS. LINDA ESPING HELPED KEEP THE SANITY OF THE STAFF MEMBERS IN ADDI- TION TO MAKING SURE THAT THEY AL- WAYS PRODUCED A PROFESSIONAL NEWSPAPER. THE SHIELD OPERATED UN- DER EDITORS IASON LACOMB AND ALI- SON ISER. IASON AND ALISON SUMMED UP THIS YEAR'S SHIELD BY SAYING, EV- ERYTHING WORKED OUT VERY WELL THIS YEAR. SADIE HAWKINS SPIRIT WEEK IS A POPULAR AND GREATLY ANTICIPATED EVENT. THE POW- DERPUEE ASSEMBLY HIGHLIGHTS THE WEEK, GIVING THE GUYS AN OPPORTUNITY TO CHEER ON THE GIRLS AS WELL AS THE CHANCE TO SHOW OFF THEIR DANCING ABILITIES ALONG WITH THEIR LEGS. THE SONGLEADING SQUAD CONSISTED OF SENIORS SCOTT WOOD, SHAE ASKEW, BRIAN ROTH, CARLOS BARRIENTOS, ROBERT VILLA- SENOR, STEVE SEGESSER, DANNY ROVIRA, BRI- AN MALAVAR, IEFF PATTERSON, BRIAN ROB- ERTS, AND CARLOS CASTILLO. THE BOYS PER- FORMED A DANCE TO TALK DIRTY TO WHICH WAS HIGHLIGHTED BY A KICK-LINE. THEY WERE FOLLOWED BY THE VARSITY CHEERLEADERS WHO KEPT THE CROWD EN- TERTAINED IN A ROUTINE WHICH INCLUDED CHEERS, STUNTS, AND A RUN DMC MEDLEY. SENIORS MIKE WALLACE, MIKE PROCOPIO, AL FRISKE, STEVE FODOR, IASON LACOMBE, TOM SHIN, GARY MERCER, NICKY KOB, DONNY FLO- RES, AND TEVITA AHOLEIHI MADE UP THE EN- ERGETIC AND ENTHUSIASTIC GROUP. THE IU- NIOR VARSITY CHEERLEADERS COMPLETED THIS PORTION OF THE ASSEMBLY. IUNIOR PARTICIPANTS INCLUDED BRIAN WEISER, KOREY KOWATTA, BILL IARMAN, BOB TITUS, ARASH BAYROOTI, IOHN MARSHALL, IOHN ANDERSON, GILBERT VALDEZ, AND TODD OCONNER. RAPHAEL GARCIA ADDED TO THE SPIRIT AS A VARSITY MASCOT. TO CONCLUDE THE ASSEMBLY, THE DRILL- TEAM LEADERS, CONSISTING OF SENIORS ADAM WIK AND TONY FERRINTINO AND IU- NIORS RICK ALLEN AND CHRIS CALLAHAN, AMAZED THE CROWD WITH THEIR DANCING EXPERTISE. THE HARD WORK PAIDOFF5 POW- DER PUEE 1987 WAS A SUCCESS. I. Iunior Cheerleaders Korey Kowata and Bill lar- man go over the game strategy with Mike Conn. 2. Seniors Mike Wallace and Mike Procopio per- form the camp dance with great enthusiasm, 3. Songleaders Robert Villasenor and Carlos Bar- rientos get ready to begin their routine. 4. Pep-Commisioner Adam Fullman generates crowd enthusiasm with the class competition. 5. Brian, Scott, left, Danny, and Carlos demonstrate their true grace and agility in the famous kick- line. 6. Drill team leader Tony Ferrentino shows ott his dancing abilities to the crowds delight. 7.
