XX. X. N 72X varsity football one two WITH ONLY ELEVEN RE TURNING LE TTERMEN THE VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM CONSISTED OF FORTY-ONE PLAYERS, TWENTY-FIVE OF THEM IUNIORS. THE TEAM ENDURED HOURS OF INTENSE CONDITIONING SIX DAYS A WEEK DURING THE PRE-SEASON ALONG WITH DAILY MEETINGS TO PLOT STRATEGIES. TO INCREASE THE AGILITY AND STAMINA OF THE PLA YERS, PRACTICES INCLUDED AEROBIC51 RUNNING, AND SCRIMMAGES AFTER THE WEEKS OF PRACTICE THE TEAM WAS WELL PREPARED FOR THE SEASON WINNING THEIR FIRST THREE GAMES AGAINST WESTERN ANAHEIM AND GARDEN GROVE THE REST OF THE SEASON CONTINUED IN MUCH THE SAME MANNER AS THE FIGHTING SAXONS ACHIEVED MANY VICTORIES WITH THE ESSENTIAL HELP OF COACH HERB HILL. OUTSTANDING PLAYERS, ACCORDING TO COACH HILL, WERE CHRIS WRIGHT WADE CLESTER JOHN MON- TOYA, MIKE GOLIA, AND KEVIN HAMPTON THE ENTIRE TEAM WORKED AS A DRIVING FORCE TOWARD THE ULTIMATE GOAL - BEING THE BEST J. ' '- 9' -AS ,L 1- 4'-X two 74 ,ffrosh soph football fhfee WITH LITTLE EXPERIENCE BUT ENDLESS SPIRIT THE SOPHOMORE AND FRESHMAN FOOTBALL TEAMS PER- SISTENTLY STROVE TO PERFECT THEIR SKILLS TRAINING WITH GREAT DISCIPLINE EVERY OAK THE SOPHOMORE TEAM IMPROVED STEADILY THERE WERE SEVERAL TALENTED PLAYERS, INCLUDING STEVE MAR- SHALL, DAN RODRIGUEZ CORE Y KOWA TA, AND MIKE CONN THE TEAM WAS FEW IN NUMBER HAVING ONLY TWENTY-FOUR PLAYERS, BUT IT WAS BIG ON ENTHUSI- ASM COACH BOB HINMAN WAS OUOTED AS SAYING, WE'RE VERY COMPETITIVE BUT WE TRY TO HAVE A LOT OF FUN ALSO PRACTICING FIVE DAYS A WEEK THE FRESH- MAN TEAM FOLLOWED THE LEAD OF COACH MARTY JOHNSON WHO COMMENTED THE Y'VE WORKED LONG AND HARD TO IMPROVE AND I BELIEVE THIS WORK WILL PAY OFF FOR THEM IN THE FUTURE THE TEAM PUT OUTA GREAT EFFORT AND GAINED VALUABLE EXPER- IENCE IN THEIR MANY PRACTICES AND GAMES.
