THEY HAD NOT SEEN THEIR GLOVES SINCE LAST YEAR THEIR GLOVES STRETCHED OUT FROM MUCH USE WOULD BE USED FOR ANOTHER SEASON AT LOARA. AS IT TURNED OUT IT WAS A FINE SEA- SON THE VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM HAD MANY YOUNG STARTING PLAYERS. LOARA 'S OPENING GAME AGAINST ANAHEIM HAD FOUR FRESHMEAI THREE SOPHOMORES NO IUNIORS AND FOUR SENIORS. THE YOUNG TEAM WAS NOT THE ONLY THING THAT WAS NEW WITH LOARA 'S PROGRAM COACH DARYL WALKER WAS A FIRST-YEAR COACH FOR THE VARSITY AND IV TEAMS. THE GIRLS ON BOTH TEAMS RESPECTED HIM AS A COACH AND A PERSON WITH THIS BLEND OF PLAYERS AND COACHING, THE LOARA SOFTBALL TEAM EARNED ANOTHER VIC TORIOUS sfnsoiv 1. W4 :'1u.u.x:. .ik , 64, jv softball THE JV GIRLS' SOFTBALL TEAM BEGAN THE YEAR WITH SEVERAL CHANGES AND CHAL- LENGES.' A NEW COACH INEXPERIENCED PLAY- ERS AND PLAYERS UNACCUSTOMED TO EACH OTHER. THE FIRST-YEAR COACH MISS WEELER BE- LIE VED THE TEAM HAD PROMISE AND EACH PLAYER GA VE HER BEST TO HELP THE IV TEAM SUCCEED. AT THE END OF THE SEASON COACH WEELER STA TED THAT EACH GIRL WOULD MAKE A GREAT CONTRIBUTION WHEN SHE WAS MOVED UP TO NEXT YEAR'S VARSITY TEAM IN ORDER TO GAIN THE NEEDED SKILL AND EXPERIENCE THE TEAM PRACTICED EVERY DAY EXCEPT GAME DA YS. EVERY PRACTICE LASTED FOR FOUR HOURS. DURING THESE PRACTICES THE PLAYERS RAN INFIELD DRILLS, PRACTICED RUNNING AROUND BASES, AND VISITED THE BA TTING CAGES. THE GIRLS' HARD WORK, PRIDE. AND SPIRIT WERE E VEDENT ALL YEAR. 1. Ka yIan makes a great play to tag out the runner trying to advance. 2. Bottom: Sparks, Hutson, Branden, Zenna, Roundtree.
