M77 f fm fjwff To Mr. .lohn Stoll and Mr. Paul Champion, who for three years have been the football and basketball coaches, the seniors wish to dedicate this issue of the 1950 Spectator. Both Mr. Stoll and Mr. Champion are graduates of Western Kentucky State College in 1947. Before entering college, Mr. Stoll lived in Ludlow, Kentucky where he played high school football. While in the service of his country, he served in the paratroopers for three years. Mr. Champion is a native of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. During the war, he joined the Navy and attended Harvard and Dennison while in service. He played basketball and some football at these schools. He too re- turned to Western State College. Ten In 1949 Mr. Champion and Mr. Stoll coached the basketball team to the 34th District Championship. Under the leadership of these coaches, we look forward to a continued improvement in spirit and performance of athletics at Lloyd. W ' St This page in our scrapbook unfolds the work of the Juniors in preparation for a stately Dinner-Dance, in honor of the graduating seniors. They sold Christmas cards, Lloyd stickers, beanies, and gave a sock-hop. This year was not all work, for the Juniors found time to participate in the many activities. Rash and Graham were their participants in basketball, and clubs were well represented 255-1 by members of this ambitious class. Miss Kincaid and Mr. Jaeger ,, were the very co-operative sponsors. mes 'LJ ? We remember the sophomores in our scrapbook as an industrious group led by their sponsors, Mrs. Price and Mrs. Borchin. Along with their president, Donald Tanner, they planned a dance after the Bardstown game and entertained the teams with a buffet dinner. Their studies were hard, but with their characteristic zip and go they tackled them with real interest and made it more fun than work. Their ambitions for a Super Commencement Dance were realized, and they brought their second year in high school to a successful close. , Thirty-five ?teAlcmen FIRST ROW: Hebel, T. This was a year of excitement and belonging at Lloyd to the fresh- men - for the first time, they were upperclassmen. They had as their capable leaders, Mr. Lancaster and Mr. Champion. There has been challenge in the activities. Classmates came to see their boys play, the freshman basketball team had a most victorious season. The freshman class made an important page in our memory book, we know everyone whether we can call his name or not. This group was represented in the Junior High Minstrel, Virginia Gladiola Stillings was the colored Mama, Alene Neat danced The Choco- late Suds B1ues, Pauline Morgan and .loan Miller sang in the chorus. Under the guidance of Mrs. Conraddi and Miss Scott, they enjoyed both Work and play. Choral reading, map making, a skating party, and a trip to Coney Island were some ot their activities. Sonya Riddell and Patsy Kirchhoff were class presidents. The close of this year has found them looking forward to a new experience of chang- ing classes in the eighth grade. K x btqmatic Club Senior? P149 While thumbing through the pages of our memory book we come to the page of dramatics. Memories of stage props, costumes, and radio programs run through our minds. The Dramatic club under the leadership of Mrs. Price and President Bobby Gordon, helped in the Christmas program by presenting the Pageant, presented two radio programs on the Playhouse over WZIP, and surprised the student body with a play in assembly. In March they sponsored a dance and a gala time was had by all. Their big moment finally arrived in April when mem- bers of the dramatic club took part in the State Speech Contest and proved that Lloyd had great dramatic talent. Their world of make-believe will long be re- membered as a welcome relief from our studies. Comin' Around the Mountain, the Senior Class Play of 1950, directed by Mrs Borchin, holds a place all its own in the memories of our senior year. The play by Robert St. Clair was given on May 6th and left the audience in roars of laugh- ter. It was a melodramatic farce comedy of hillbilly life. The main interest of the club is to help each member and others to have a better understanding of literature. In our book of memories we see that every month some of the members wrote a review for the Tatler, gave oral reviews at the meetings, and discussed their opinions on all types of literature. During National Book Week the members put on a very interesting assembly program, and passed out booklets on some of the better books in our library. The new club elected as its first officers: Geary Martin, President, Shirley Peters, Vice President, Joanne Hundley, Secretary. The following students served as library assistants this year: Mary Ellen Sidney, Helen Casebolt, Gayle Ryle, Richard Wheelright, Norman Nutter, Shirley Peters, Imogene Davis, Irene Barker, Lucy Tichenor and Geary Martin. Forty-eight ?utu'ze liomemqlzeu of Jmeticq One of the new additions to the scrapbook of 1950, is the F.H.A. Club. This club is a national organization for girls interested in home economics, and a closer relationship be- tween the students and their families in the activities relating to homemaking. This year has been a very successful one under the leadership of Miss May, Home Economics teacher and Carol Maxwell, the club president. Forty-nin gl I Scouu FIRST ROW: Crowell, Nutler, Pinirock. The seniors hold a place in their 1950 scrapbook for the only Senior Girl Scout troup in northern Kentucky. Five new girls were invested into Girl Scouts in a candle light service, followed by a reception for the scout mothers. The scouts entertained the boys in a true Sadie Hawkins Day Spirit. This troup was entertained with an 'elab- orate Halloween party by the senior boy scout troop of Latonia. This year's program included Christmas caroling and the annual moon- light boatride. The sponsor and co-sponsor are Miss Helen Johnson and Miss Kincaid. The officers are: Janet Nutter, president: Carolyn Crowell, vice-president: and Peggy Finfrock, secretary-treasurer. The Intermediate Girl Scouts at Lloyd were led through a successful year by Mrs. Russel and Miss Charlotte Taylor. my NN ri. A jmngh Snlyuul X U 5. ERLANGER, KY. g?'
