Hard 1snt ltgj Some of us went to Locust Street School wh1le the rest went to the Elsmere School All of us l1ked grade school very much espec1ally recess Ah' the fights we d1d have but we d1d have fun and no permanent harm was done Fmally after a long and bltter struggle we managed to reach the seventh grade and enter Lloyd Hlgh School I m1ght add that the teachers at Locust and Elemere were very sorry to see us go but they managed to carry on We surely were scared At grade school we had been the Commandlng OHEICCTS Calmostl Thxs was all changed Now we were Jjust unlmportant Buck Pr1vates What a let down' But nothlng could down us The Hrst thlng we knew we were taklng part ln the glee club the l1brary the Gxrl Reserves the H1 Y sports and all other act1v1t1es We were really busy httle bees We were Was everyone surprxsed' Tlme passed very qulckly and w1th1n a few years our radxos were broad castlng the bomblng of Pearl Harbor Then everythmg began to change Our classmates were 1eav1ng us to go to war and to work ln defense plants One of our most prom1s1ng members Gene Hetzel was suddenly kxlled last December We no longer played at school we worked and studled We helped to collect scrap metal waste paper and clothlng to send to Russ1a We helped the Red Cross by knlttlng packlng Chrlstmas boxes and makmg surglcal dressmgs We saved our money and bought war stamps and war bonds All 1n all we have trled to do a httle to help our country Now we are the lleutenants We don t really feel so lmportant as we act ln fact we shall be sorry to leave Lloyd Soon We must begm agam thls txme ln a new school the school of lxfe I hope we shall all be as happy as we were here at Lloyd And now we Must leave th1s sheltermg roof and Joys of llfe so soft and warm 10 . , .
