Saluta- torian, Shannon Beasley invit- ed everyone to keep or to ac- quire a sense of humor while Class President, Heather Brand demonstrated that hers was intact with her goodbye to parents and school in verse. Kevin Fagan was awarded the Mildred Phillips Spencer Scholarship. Crystal Jeffer- son won the Faculty Scholar- ship and Sophia Sullivan was named the Outstanding Sen- ior. The first Jay Mallory Scholarship was awarded to Nolan Morris. Lottery tickets were given to Aubrey Lindsey as the tradition continues. The class donated a sign to be placed above the stadium en- trance. Diplomas in hand, Seniors gathered for ‘89 in Full Ef- Graduation ’89 65 A Tropical, Graduation fect’ aboard the USS Tropical Illusion at the YMCA for the first alcohol-free after party sponsored by PTSA with Chairpersons, Donna DeR- yder and Betty Sawyer at the helm. $30,000 in tow, gradu- ates played Las Vegas games, danced and swam until 3:30 a.m. when prizes were award- ed. No one went home empty handed. Prizes were donated by the community to ensure the success of the maiden voy- age. At 5 a.m., Aubrey Lind- sey announced the winner of the $1,000 grand prize, Tra- cy Boutelle.
