e 160 How do YOU spend your free time? ven though it feels like forever some- times, the six hours we spend at school are only a small part of our time. Everyone has differ- ent ways they spend the rest of their time. Some people use that time to make money at a part- time job. Many others find more fun ways to spend it. The surfers at Bird try to get down to the waves as much as possible. While they have to head to the beach to have their fun, most skaters look for the nearest wall, sidewalk, or just about anything else that doesn’t move! Per- forming difficult moves is a big part of skating, like Jon Johnston’s handstand atop his board. As with the skaters, freestylers can go just about any- where to have fun, as long as they have space. David Dunn shows his skill on a bike by balancing on the handlebars. Between school and fun, it’s hard to keep it all straight, but the students here at Bird seem to have perfected that balance — in more ways than one! Bird Pag- eant to begin, they sat back and enjoyed a pot- pourri of talent. The Tal- ent Show, hosted by Me- lanie Minor and Doug Maxwell, was a smash, with the Cover Girls danc- ing their way to first place. The dancers, Can- dice Boyette, Robin Rich, Laura Rich, and Jenny Bryan dazzled the judges with their dynamic rou- tine. Scott Campbell won the hearts of the audi- ence, quacking ‘“‘My Pre- rogative.’’ Third place was awarded to Carolyn Friend, singing ““Two Oc- casions.” After the cur- tains closed on Talent Show ’89, Fred Tarry and Stacey Tatro introduced the contestants for the Miss L.C. Bird Pageant. The long awaited an- nouncement was made after the last girl crossed the stage. Jennifer Dyson, representing Jr. NAHS, was awarded first runner- up. Taking the crown was Tracey Totty, who repre- sented SADD and be- came Miss L.C. Bird 89. The Cover Girls dance the night away at Talent Show 89. Singing ‘‘My Prerogative,’ Scott Campbell quacked his way tc f fame with a second place finish in the Talent Show. Singing ‘“‘Two Occasions,’ Carolyn Friend’s talen shines.
