Golfers Line everal outstanding players helped swing the golf team into the victory column during the sea- son. Seasoned veterans, Scott Marks, Shannon Beasley and Mike Katcham were the senior standouts. Scott Marks was in the playoff for regionals while Shannon Beasley was named a member of the All Academic Dominion District Team. The season record of 5-12 featured an exciting one stroke victory against Meadowbrook. Making that victory even sweeter was Up The Wins the fact that it was on Meadow- brook’s home course. Julian Porter, who has been the golf coach at Bird for eleven years, sharpened up his golfers skills to add wins over George Wythe, Hopewell, and Peters- burg. The captain’s choice tournament tops off the season for the golfers. This year the tournament was won by Jay Rosenstock, Paul Kang and Mike Katcham. Letters and awards were given to outstand- ing players during the annual banquet. Forever hoping for that perfect shot, Scott Marks drives the ball while Coach Porter enjoys taking in the scenery in style.
