Goblins, ghouls and ghosts greet on the way to classes. Fresh from Elm Street, a new student, Freddy Krooger has an irritating laugh and nasty knife fingers which he grates every chance he gets. Monsters, the Hunchback of Notre Dame, and blood thirsty creatures from the night make lunch the last thing on the mind. But, don’t get out that crucifix, teddy bear or string of garl ic. Pleasant witches, rock stars, pretty ladies, dashing heros and friendly vagabonds will fend off the evil ones. Barry Ellenberger. “‘Freddie”’ ovember 21, 1986 at 10:27 a.m. the fire alarm sounded. No problem. It was just the required drill. Right? Wrong. Big Trouble. Fire trucks and police cars rolled into the campus. Students and staff had no idea what had happened. i ‘Is there a fire?”’ “It’s freezing, can I go to my car?” “This is scary!” “I left my jacket, purse ... everything in there.” “I have to go the bathroom.” “Does anyone have a camera?” “I don't believe this, what’s happening?” “‘You heard what?” “‘We get out early? ...” “Oh, no the yearbook room is back there!” round moving equipment being used in the new construction accidentally struck a gas line which was buried under trash and unmarked. Luckily, no work- men, students or staff were injured and the rumors of early dismissal were ruined by reality as students returned to fourth period and other afternoon class. What a day! Wat bf O 9 Gas Leak KABOOM! Psyche! 10 “It was kind of scary and _it was a-big mess. We had a ball!’’ Melanie Minor. “Luckily, no one was hurt. I’m sorta glad it happened. T needed a break.” Gerry Johnson. “Why can't they just forget it and send us home?”’ ... Michael Heywood. Special thanks to Julian Porter (top right.) from TALON. He risked his life to get the camera. If it were not for his bravery, these pages would not have been possible. (Or, were you cold, JP?) | KABOOM! This year the Talon experimented with dif- ferent style layouts and different col- ors. An updated more exciting style, the Talon is moving more toward a magazine style with cut-out images and crooked pictures adding more class and pizzaz. Our Talon staff has worked hard to create another great yearbook. With this yearbook we can all look back and relive all the memo- ries of our high school days. But the yearbook is not all work, — fun and play are included in the agenda. The Talon staff cuts out early on Fridays and heads to Pizza Hut to celebrate a deadline or to just take a staff break. It is time for me to say goodbye to Bird and the Talon staff. I have loved working with the staff and felt it has taught me responsibility and organi- zation. Each members means a great deal to me. Thanks, Mrs. Bitner for being such a dedicated sponsor and working so hard to make Talon a great success. This yearbook holds many memories for all Skyhawks. As I look at this book I will remember all the wonderful memories that were cre- ated in room 209. Enjoy the color!! Don’t you just love it! Lisa Bierowski Editor 1987 Talon All Study ... Psyche! Latin Club gives Latin students the chance to socialize with each other and to realize that it is great — not weird — to enjoy language study. Competition is another strong draw to this club. At state and national conventions Bird students enjoy the chance to compete with peers throughout the country.
