Miss Rountree as she receives the Jennie Smallwood Price Award for 1970. An insight into Miss Rountree ' s devotion and interest in Liv- ingstone may best be expressed in her own words: As a hbrarian I firmly believe that the dissemination of knowledge is viable in a college situation with friendly coercion — particularly Livingstone College. I believe in the youth of Livingstone. They are aggressive and involved and their participation in the democratic process will prepare them for the pohtical, rehgious and civic arena of their final communities. I am above 30 the ancient age so this honor is accepted with humility. However, my normal approach to dialogue with students, disciphnary action when needed, ad- vice and counseling whenever accepted. The library assistance I am trained to give will continue. Miss Louise M. Rountree was born in Barnwell, South Carolina. She received her A.B. from Morris Col- lege, Sumter, South Carolina, her B.L.S. from the Atlanta University School of Li- brary Service, Atlanta, Georgia, and her M.L.S. from Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York. Miss Rountree has been employed as a teacher at Estill High School and as a teacher librarian at Allendale County High School, both of which are in South Caro- lina. At Livingstone she has served as Assis- tant Librarian, Assistant Professor of Li- brary Science, Acting Head Librarian, and Head Librarian. During her tenure at Livingstone, she has co-advised the Y.W.C.A., held membership in the Religious Life Committee, been Sec- retary of Committee on Fraternities and Sororities, and has served on the Library Committee. In the way of organizations. Miss Roun- tree holds membership in the American Library Association, Southeastern Library Association, North Carolina Library Asso- ciation, Rowan Citizens for better Libra- rians, Rowan County Library Association, and the American Association of University Women. Miss Rountree ' s professional contribu- tions include several publications among which are six bibliographies: An Anno- tated Bibliography on Joseph C. Price, An Annotated Bibliography on Living- stone College, An Annotated Bibhogra- phy on James E. K. Aggrey, Collectors item Bibliography on Slavery, The Ameri- can Negro and African Studies, and Multi-Cultures. A pamphlet entitled Blue Bear Trax, Highlights of the Liv- ingstone College Blue Bear Football record, The Negro American Citizen, and Stu- dents Guide to the Library. 5
