Dean— College of Liberal Arts Dr. James C. Simpson a m Filling the vacancy of Dean of Instruction left by Dr. Victor J. T u 1 an e ' s promotion, is Dr. James C. Simpson, Former Chairman of the Division of Education and p sy c h o 1 og y at Livingstone College. Dr. Simpson ' s experiences in the field of higher education include seven years as a faculty member at Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte, North Carolina, and summer work as visiting professor at South Carolina State College, Orangeburg, South Carolina and Florida A. and M. University, Tallahassee, Florida. He is the local coordinator of the Southern Education Foundation Student Achievement Project. Leading up to the evaluation of the college ' s teacher education program by the State Department of Public Instruction, he served as co-chairman of the Self-Study Committee on Teacher Education at Livingstone. 7

The Assistant To The President Dr. Victor J. Tulane As a result of Livingstone ' s rap- id growth and the increasing demands being made upon President S. E. Duncan, a new position, that of As- sistant to the President, has been created. The honored person named to fulfill the numerous obligations engendered by this post is Dr. Victor J. Tulane, former Dean of Instruction here at Livingstone. Included in the duties which Dr. Tulane is currently performing are representing the president in his absence, making out-of-town appearances on behalf of the president and the college family, and correlating on-and off-campus activities. In addition to these duties, Dr. Tulane, in retaining his position as Head of the Division of Natu- ral Sciences, is currently making plans for the construction of the $500,000 Science Building. He is also responsible for the management of the $20,000 matching grant from the National Science Foun- dation. During Dr. Tulane ' s six years as Dean of Instruction much progress was made. The most outstanding achievement was the school ' s accreditation by the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges. 6

Just as the nerve center in the body controls and motivates the bodily functions, the administrative staff of a college controls and motivates the students.
