JONES BUSINESS MANAGER . . .DORIS BARKSDALE ADVISOR MR. GRADY NELSON FOREWORD As had other classes before it, the Class of 1963 found L. C. to be a mixture of many things. All of these mixtures have helped us to become mature men and women. We now LOOK TO THE FUTURE with pride and with great enthusiasm. Our days here at Livingstone slowly come to an end and we move out from these maples and oaks and venture into another world- -to serve humanity. We leave behind the cherished mem- ories that have endeared us to our Alma Mater. To catch in some small way the flavor of Livingstone College, to recreate by work and picture the story of a year at our Livingstone, to rescue from the oblivion of time the events that took place--such are the aims of the 1963 Livingstonian. We shall forever hold high the spirit of our dear Alma Mater . . . O! Livingstone, my Livingstone! Thy dear old name we sing, While Memories cluster thick and fast, And closer to us cling. Beneath thy maples and thy The zephyred breezes blow, Just as they wil l in years to come, No matter where we go . . . Fonvielle-Richardson 6 To Mrs. Josephine Price Sherrill We, the s e nio r cl as s of 1963, dedicate this edition of the Livingstonian to Mrs. Josephine Price Sherrill. Mrs. Sherrill is no stranger to the Livingstone College family. As librarian, she has done her job well and used her energies for the betterment of our most prized tool in education, the library. Her services to our alma mater have been many. We are proud to dedicate the 1963 Livingstonian to you as one who exemplifies the qualities that have made you respected by all who know you. OUR PRESIDENT Dr. Samuel E. Duncan To: The Senior Class The publicat ion of the Annual constitutes another attempt of a graduating class to recapture various highlights of the activities of students and staff over the four years, and to help perpetuate memories that should not die. It is equally as recognizable that the preparation of the Annual, mainly by the Yearbook Staff, was an educational experience for the participants and a con- tribution to those who helped to make the venture possible by various means. As you, the members of the Class, must leave some impressions on the lives of those who will graduate in the immediate years, may your deeds as Alumni of Livingstone College contribute to their rounded growth and success. We shall always be grateful to . . W. J. Trent PRESIDENT EMERITUS OUR ADMINISTRATION AND FACULTY Edgar N. French, College Minister Mrs. Alecestis Coleman, Dean of Women Douglas E. D. To the graduates of 1963 my sincere congratulations on your success in reaching this mildstone on your road through life. For each of us there is only one way which is cut and carved as one moves forward through life ' s jungle to- ward a self chosen goal. Successful achievement, lend strength and confidence as each tree is felled and each river crossed. Each one steps forward and meets a new danger-another challenge. You are now standing in an open meadow facing another dark unknown jungle. How will you meet these unknown dangers? Fear has become a tool and weapon of our age. Fearful of an undesirable end dominates and becomes the controlling drive in the movements of mankind. Are you afraid of life or overconfident of success? Over confidence and too much self assurance are obstacles to successful accomplishments. God must be in the equa- tion of life. He who fears is without God, he who has faith is of God. Faith in God, supports faith in self and lends understanding, visual depth, courage, determination, the will to do and move mountains of opposition. Do you have this kind of faith? Frank R.
