FOREWORD An old man, going a lone highway Came at the evening, cold and gray- To a chasm, vast and deep and wide Through which was flowing a sullen tide. The old man crossed in the twilight dim; The sullen stream had no fears for him; But he turned when safe on the other side And built a bridge to span the tide. Old man, said a fellow pilgrim near, You are wasting strength with building here; Your journey will end with the ending day; You never again must pass this way; You have crossed the chasm, deep and wide — Why build you the bridge at the eventide? The builder lifted his old gray head: Good friend, in the path I have come, he said, There followeth after me today A youth whose feet must pass this way. This chasm that has been naught to me To that fair-haired youth may a pitfall be. He too, must cross in the twilight dim; Good friend, I am building the bridge for him. As we, the class of 1958, shed our cloak of college preparation and prepare to don the newer and more burdensome cloak of adult responsibility, we are well fortified to endure whatever may lie ahead. We are able to say we are ready because for four long and fruitful years we have constantly sat on the stools at, the feet of the masters thirsting for, seeking after, and finding knowledge untold. Accordmg to tradition and because we are proud of our Alma Mater, we here wish to present this Livingstonian of 1958. Within these unpretentious backs one will find photographs, our class poem, our class superlatives, and our countless activities-all seeking to display for judgment our accomplish- ments through four years. As we have strived for the major part of our college lives to be a lamp unto someone s feet, even so is our aim for the future. Our aim in a large sense is found in the poem above. We too have crossed in the twilight dim; it is our foremost desire to aid in the guiding of other lives, (o an even more successful plane in society. Hence, it is with an abiding sorrow overlaid with a covering of sincere gratitude and apprecia- tion that we prepare to leave these hallowed maples and oaks. We wish to thank wholeheartedly all who have helped to make this Livingstonian the success that we, the seniors of 1958, feel it is. May this contribution to the rich heritage that is aheady possess- ed by Livingstone serve ever as a reminder to posterity that we, the seniors of 1958, passed this way and it was our privilege as we passed, to attend Livingstone, Our Livmgstone, School That We Love.
