CLASS HISTORY The sun shone. One fine September morn in 1954, we stepped from our powerful imaginary Sabrejet--one hundred and thirty strong-ready to tackle a four year adventure that encompassed the social, cultural, and intellectual aspects. Needing an able leader we chose Curtis Meningall to lead us through this first stage with Miss Blanche Jordan as advisor. Under his leadership we advanced from mediocrity to a marked degree of success. In the social realm Carrie Solomon was crowned Miss Blue Revua Alameda Smith maintained an A average and Willie Gibson and David Shinholster were standouts on the athletic teams. As we tramped our way through the many adversities concomitant with any beginning, we be- came aware that there were some fundamentals that we should know. Therefore for our second stage on this strange journey we chose to use the atomic powered submarine with Fred Young as the navi- gator. As we cruised along in the depths we saw through picture windows that with diving suits forti- fied with one year ' s experience, we could possibly go on to do greater things. So donning our equip- ment, we constructed a presentable float to enter in the Homecoming Parade. Robert Gest, III, won the College Scholarship Award and David Shinholster was selected to the all E. I. A. C. football team. In this stage, as in the first, we accomplished many things and we were indeed grateful for the com- petent advisorship of Dr. Stanley H. Smith. Having satisfied our thirst for the basic things and gaining tremendous experience as wise-fools, we were now ready to again aim for the skies. We chose to travel by land to one of the many missile testing centers. Daniel Jolly was selected to guide us over the grounds and Mrs. Dorothy Williams as our official guide. Leading the honor roll we found many juniors. Among them, Benjamin Floyd, Shirley Bell, Robert Gest, III, the Bruces, et. als. Warren Hayes and James King ably represented us on the gridiron and Willie J. McNeill was the sparkplug of the basketball team. Shortly before W. T. Gibson won the Price Medal for oratory, we feted the seniors with a very memorable Junior-Senior Prom, the theme of which was Oriental Gardens. As we began our fourth stage of adventure we introduced the missile age. However, here we were to take a backward glance over the previous stages of adventure and development and gain new vigor to attract and conquer the fourth phase. With the same velocity of the many and varied missiles, our class began with a bang, being led by Edward Patterson. At this stage many of the class members were either engaged or married. Robert Gest, III, led the school in scholarship and was se- lected as the National Omega Scholar of the year. Shirley Bell, Benjamin Floyd, Edward Patterson, and Robert Gest, III, were elected to Who ' s Who In American Colleges and Universities. This year the Student Council president came from our ranks in the person of Robert Gest, III. Willie J. McNeill was captain and stalwart of the boys ' basketball team. Just as in the other years, Lucealus Robinson and Barbara Martin were two of the best basketball players on the girls ' team. Jean Harley was chosen as Miss Livingstone as a result of the untiring efforts of every class member. After three years of being defeated in the finals, we finally won the Intramural Basketball Championship under the leader- ship of Willie J. McNeill and our class president, Edward Patterson. The girls ' team was runner-up. It was this year that we chose to exhibit our fine leadership potential by recognizing the importance of Founder ' s Day and contributing accordingly. We gave our largest contribution ever— $125.00. On the strength of our achievements we are now prepared to enter yet another stage— the satellite stage. As we board the Explorer, there is no way to go but up. As one notices the meteoric rise of each of the members of this class, a faint beep-beep is heard as we seek to find our places in the sun. For I looked into the future far as human eye could see Saw the vision of the world and all the wonder yet to be—
