oreword Tiny oak and maple seeds were we — planted by the loving hands of earnest and hardworking parents. Afraid to near the surface of the earth because we did not know if we could equally accept the responsibilities of adulthood, we burrowed deeper into what was thought of as security. However, this security was false, and became visible in our various problems of maladjustment. Even with sunlight, rain and proper nutrition, we began to wither and die, despite the fact that we knew our destiny was to be of might and strength. But then came our Spring — and with it our awakening. Our buds be- gan to blossom into the promising golden color which symbolizes progress. And, with our awakening, we began to realize our importance as pillars of strength, and stopped to thank from the bottom of our new- lyborn souls the sincere parents who gave us the privilege of the ultimate aim of education. We became grate- ful to the teachers who had fed us with the richest food of knowledge, heated us with rays of understanding and showered us with the rain of Christian principles. So, since all strong forces leave their imprints on the sands of time as a guide, we the now mighty and victorious maples and oaks of 1953 — leave to you our imprints of progress as found in the pages of our annual, The Livingstonian.
