Edzlomzl E the Semor Class of nxneteen hundred flfty one w1ll go forth xnto world of uncertalnty and 1ndec1s1on Our s1x years together ln Jumor and senlor hxgh school have been years of complacency As we came mto our f1rst year of Jumor h1gh World War 2 was over The Umted Nat1ons orgamzatlon was meetlng at Lake Success and the world seemed at peace We progressed Into hxgh school and we were preparmng for the task of lxvmg adult hves Our thoughts certalnly were not of wars or commumsm or of anythxng else that mlght have mterrupted our chaxn of thought at that tlme We were wonderlng about our futures thmkxng what fate mxght hold for us but we gave llttle thought to anythmg other than our lmmedxate sur round1ngs In our Jun1or and Semor years we were Startlng to plan IH earnest Some of us expected to go on to a h1gher educatxon some to get marrxed others to go out 1n the busmess world Lzfe was begmmng to hold many new xdeas and projects We were ready to face any of the trlals of our adult l1fe The news of July 1950 meant very lxttle to us at the tlme It was Just another headlzne ln the newspapers or an lncldent happenlng ln a far off Or lental country Our thoughts were only of the present the money we were rnakmg m our summer Jobs or what we would wear t0n1ght after our t01l ended Carefree thoughts were these thoughts of very httle world shakmg xmportance The news of July 1950 has come to mean a great deal more to most of us especxally to those whose brothers and sweethearts have already been called to the defense of the1r country Many of the young men of thxs graduat mg class w1ll face the prospect of goxng xnto the armed forces Our dreams are little more than smoke puffs 1n our past Our future w1ll d1rectly or mn d1rectly be xnfluences by forces beyond us We are only one of the thousands of h1gh school graduatmg classes wh1ch are leavmg school to take the1r place ln the world Small as It may be, we must play our part mn try1ng to br1ng about a peaceful world Thls may call for more than gxvlng loved ones or f1ght1ng rn a war In order to preserve our way of lxfe we must str1ve to lwe peacefully among our nexghbors to vanqumsh our petty prejudxces and to teach our ch1ldren to grow up to be better world C1t1ZeHS The future IS wxthm our hands 4 C v . . . - I . . a just over the horizon.
