This is our way of showing our appreciation for the two important lessons you have taught us, the spectators and members of your team: as winners to be humble, and as losers to be proud. MR. POY T RESS Superintendent SUPERlNDENDENT'S MESSAGE As we complete another year of learning and growing together in school, we should have many happy and fruitful experiences to remember. In an atom-minded world the citizens of tomorrow who have learned to work, to work well, and to work well with others will surely find places for themselves. We should be proud of each job we have done. The good grades on report cards, the diplomas won, the friendships made in study and in play--in these we see the evidence of good jobs well done, successfully concluded. Your community, your parents, and your faculty have watched with interest and with pride as you progressed through the year. Keep progressingg face future chal- lenges with the confidence you have learned this part yearg be proud of each job you do, because you will have given your best to it. Frank H. Poytress District Superintendent 057 . 731' STANDING: Joseph Sanders, Mathieu Slater SEATED: Law renee Pressley, Clerkg Frank Bohn, President. 5 I I i Secondary education in our state and nation is becoming increasingly democratic in its purposes, in the number of youth it serves, in the manner in which it serves them, and in the techniques used by school people and laymen to improve it. This trend must continue if the high school is to make its proper contribution toward perpetuating and promoting the best interests of our democracy which supports it for that purpose. The job of the American Teacher, then, is to teach pupils to think apart and to act together. R. W. LYON Dean Wwe- Mrs. Smith Mr. Rose 0866 Miss L. Dirks Miss W. The Sandpiper has two purposes: one is to bring up-to-date news, laughs, excitement, and surprises to the student body, and provide a little happiness each time a student sees his name in print. The Sandpiper has had a successful year with Maryon Boles serving as Editor-in-Chief. With the help and encouragement of Mr. Grasse, Advisor, and Mrs. Schmoll, Technical Advisor, we were able to meet our bi -monthly deadlines. 6 a 1. k ex W -Q9 0 90 9 15 Of 9 Q Q 'bg 961' 1 C gl OX' X Big! 1 0 Y 6 .'IX ,-my 'lflllflllilfllflldllKMWNWK'lk 3 gp. L! -x0 sv, 0 's One bright sunny day in September of '51, there appeared in the halls of Living- ston High School a new and green group of Freshmen. The first step was to choose our leaders, they were: M. He pner, F. Salas, S. Thompson, G. Garcia, and S. Fox. The first well remembered event was initiation where we were thoroughly smear- ed with li stick by the upper classmen. The arrival of the Christmas holidays brought a party wgich was given by the whole class and held in the North hall. We later chose our second semester officers, they were: R. Linen, K. Kajiwara, F. Andam, N. Mur- ray, J. Hultgren, and E. Pulido. With the aid of our class Advisors, we successfully gave a party for they Sophomore Class. The following term found the group returning from the jocys of vacation to their new classes, this time as Sophomores. We found new interests an started in by electing our new class officers, who were: B. McEwan, E. Reed, L. Tilley, D. Goldsberry, and W. Howard. Later on in the year we gave the traditional Freshmen Reception. Once again class officers were chosen for the second semester, they were: J. Camp- bell, M. Joseph, P. Schalow, D. Pullin, J. George, and L. Tilley. Plans were formed for our bi class project Tack Day, which included a parade, baseball game and a Car- nival whici was held in the aunntorium. The money from this was to help finance our Junior activities. After a wonderful summer, the class of '55 returned to the halls of Livingston High School as Juniors. We considered ourselves a very important class that year. To us, as to every Junior Class, fell the task of presenting the Prom to be enjoyed by both Juniors and Seniors. After much deliberation, the class chose an Oriental Theme which was carried out on May 21, 1954, at the Winton Grange Hall. The ceiling was decora- ted with multicolored paper streamers with colorful green and red dragons guarding the walls. A pious Buddha sat in front of the orchestra and a beautiful oriental arden f ank- ed the back wall of the hall to complete the decorations. Under the leadersgnip of the Prom Chairman, man hours of hard work went into this, the biggest of all projects. Our first semester officers were chosen, they were: K. Kajiwara, M. Boles, D. Walt- ers, S. Shaw, J. Morimoto, and R. Linan. D During the 1953-54 year we engla ed in many other activities including a very suc- cessful Baggage Day held in March, 9554. A slightly used Model A Ford was given away to the holder of the ticket number. Second semester officers were chosen, they were: T. Yotsuya, M. Washburn, D. Walters, S. Fox, M. Boles, and M. LaMothe. Later Jerry Ann Nye, Marcel LaMothe. Jaclyn Campbell and S.i:.zana..1Qhg-s-gp chosen to represent LHS at the Junior Girl's Leadership Conference at Asilomar. Then in the spring of that year Shirley Fox, Melvin Downey, Robert Miyake and Marvin Heppner were sent as del- egates to the all important Girls and Boys' state. At the end of the year, students of our c ass were chosen as honor guards for the graduatin class of '54, It was strange to see all our old friends leave, bu we were prou to step fnto their laces, as Seniors. Our Senior year was spent in hard work, but we managed, to enjoy some fun pack- ed moments also. Some of the important activities of our Senior year were the Junior- Senior Party in November, the Prom, and Senior Ditch Da held in May. One glorious week in April was devoted to the counciling of fifth and sixtyh graders from Livingston' and Winton Grammar Schools. The Senior activities began with Baccalaureate on June fifth. June eighth brought that all important day, graduation, that we had been working toward for four years, when we received our diplomas. As we leave the halls of LHS we wish the best of luck to the under classmen. We hopleayouhllalve as much fun, and as much co-operation from the students and faculty as we ve . WW' ul mimi!
