7 1 l 1 CLASS NEWS X On the first day of school 1948 twenty-two green freshmen started to school. Later on in the year we wel- comed Robert Jones to our starting class, At first we were rather bashful and meek and our superiors ignored us for they knew we were just green freshmen. If you happen to see someone carrying an armful of books and looking in at every door, that was just a Freshie searching for his right classroom. Our first big social event was the Initiation Party, During the day, the girls wore boy's jeans and shirts while the boys had to wear dresses inside out and back- wards. Members of the Student Council had made green hats for us to wear and of course we were painted up like Indians. When the fateful night arrived we were taken to the gym and each one had their turn getting the nworks.n Luckily we all survived but through no fault of the upper classmen. We want to congratulate one of our classmates, Cath- erine Weber on her winning a contest on conservation. With the help of Miss Stiritz, she composed an essay on nwhy Conservation of our National Resources Should Be Taught in School.W For writing the best essay she was awarded an All Expense-Paid trip to Chicago. Along with five other regional winners they were entertained by be ing taken to Chicago's scenic spots over the week end Sunday they visited the Outdoor Sport Show at Navy Pier Here Catherine was chosen and crowned Queen of Queens for having written the best essay out of the six winners from among BOOO which were originally submitted She received a beautiful crown and trophy We are very proud of Robert Malench and Richard San drin both of whom made the first twelve in basketball At our first class meeting we elected the following officers for our freshmen year President Richard Sandrin Vice President Pobert Malench Secretary Maridel Nixon Treasurer Leona Krivan Sponsors Miss Smith Miss Stiritz Maridel Nixon and Robert Malench were chosen class reporters on the Eaglet Staff For representation on the Student Council we elected Leona Krivan and Bob Malench Class Flower White Rose Class Colors Blue and White Class Motto Upward Striving an ' 0 I n o 5 o o Q ease.. some .oo ogg n neue- .gg use ease ooonsoueeoeoeosuaooeoeoo seasonal! e o -1.-1 - .. 11 -ii -V, Q ,Y,,,,vV:1, ,,,.,.,,f-...7,:-,l, H -V, -T,., ,,--..-... -., -......s....-..,--,.....-.-,.,Q-NewY---W...fw
