MATHEMATICS An increasingly technical world demands knowl- edge of mathematics and its applications. The Math- ematics Department offers algebra, geometry, and Senior mathematics encompassing both the theo- retical and practical aspects. Consumer mathemat- ics, computer programming and calculus stress ap- plication of the science to problems found in daily life and the world of business. The computer course couples fundamental knowledge with creative prob- lem solving and, as a result, enrollment in this course has rapidly increased. A visit to the Comput- er Center at any time during the school day will attest to its enormous popularity. In addition to class work, the Math Department sponsors special- ized teams which offer interested students the op- portunity to compete with other schools in the county. Through all of its activities, the department prepares students for the problems of both the pre- sent and the future worlds. MR. BLAIR KRIMMEL Department Chairman MISS HARRIET BEIM i 4 MRS. FOREIGN LANGUAGE ln our multi-cultural society the understanding of foreign language is an essential skill. The Foreign Language Department, under the direction of Mrs. Dolores Cunningham, not only aids the student in the mastery of a foreign language but also provides cultural enrichment by studying the customs, mo- res, history and geography of foreign countries. Study and knowledge of a foreign language is a sup- plementary skill necessary for those entering inter- national business or social work that involves people from foreign countries. The department includes studies in French, Span- ish, German and Italian. Basic courses in Spanish are offered along with more advanced courses as Conversational and Advanced Placement French, German and Spanish. Also included is a course given in vocabulary development through foreign lan- guagewhich helps students of all languages to en- rich their vocabularies. The possibility of studying Russian, Hebrew or Latin exists should there be a sufficient number of students who opt for the lan- guage so that all can complete a minimum two year continuum. This department has also welcomed a group of German students from a suburb of Cologne, another facet in the complete study of foreign cultures. .tuwx 'ww it wx TW . ,T .
