'GIRLS SOFTBALL SEEKS IMPROVED SEASON The 1980 girl's softball team expects to improve upon last year's disappointing record of 1-16-1. Coach Ransegnola attributes his optimism for a bet- ter season to experience and the acquisition of a pitching machine. All but two starters will be returning from last year's squad including three year veterans Barbara Oelz, Mary Ellen Joyce, and Karen Turi. Turi has displayed some fine fielding ability at third base. Also returning are seniors Alyse Hirschhorn, Cheri Wein- stein, Caren Holtzman, Fran Egnezzo, and Sue Gro- howski. Grohowski batted clean up last year and will be counted on for many key hits along with Oelz and Joyce. Junior Fran Miller is an outstanding short- stop and will be a big hitting threat as well. Other juniors showing promise are Many Hawk, Linda Hol- land, and Beth Cacossa. Coach Ransegnola feels the new pitching machine will be a big help improving the batters' timing and coordination. lt will be an asset when the girls have to face the tough pitchers of the lron Hills Confer- ence. Sue Grohowski takes a lead off first base. 0914! fl ' t Coach Ransegnola gives some batting tips to Mary Ellen Joyce. Alyse Hirschhorn delivers her pitch. LACROSSE AIMS FCR CCNTINUED SUCCESS After completing their most suc- cessful season ever, the Lancer la- crosse team looks forward to an even more improved record. The 1980 Var- sity lacrosse team has the depth and the experience to make this feat pos- sible. Three Varsity lettermen will be re- turning to guide the Lancers: Tom Gruchacz has played crease attact for three years and has been a continual scoring threat. Wayne Dellosso start- ed in several games in 1979 and will be the core of the defensive unit this year. Our biggest man, Mike Braun, has the tough job of facing-off as cen- ter midfielder. Chuck Jaffe, who played goalie for the JV's, expects to see more varsity action. Many players will fill in the open spots. At middie, Attila Koch, Rich Ja- cobson, Mark Scheible, Ken Wolfe, and sophomore Mark Greenhall will see action. Holding down the defen- sive front are John lmgrund and Dave Pecora. Jody Bergman and Ste- ven Bondy, at the attack position, should be the high-scorers for the team. Also gaining a lot of experience through JV play were senior middies Ricky Hirsch and Bruce Behringer, ju- nior defenseman Jim Murphy, and Lonnie Schaefer at attack. With such an experienced solid squad, Coach Jacobson expects a strong showing by the 1980 Lancer Lacrosse team.
