TRACKNIEN ANTICIPATE IMPROVED PERFGRIVIANCE Despite a disappointing campaign last year, this year's team appears to have the needed exper- ience and skill to look forward to a very promising season. Coached by Mr. Geftic, the team will be led by returning Iettermen Peter O'Grady, Steve Jacobson and Jed Matza. Peter O'Grady remains as the' team's strongest long distance runner while Jacobson threatens to break the school re- cord in the mile and half-mile. Jed Matza repre- sents the team as the top hurdler and is expected to contribute towards the team's success in the sprints. Also vital returning members of the team include Albert Kim, Steven Reichel, Mike Bern- stein, all competing in the long distance races and Hal Kussick who runs sprints and mid distance races. In the field events the team should be paced by Mennen Gallas and Robert Sibilia in the pole vault, and Mark Friedman in the high jump. In the discus, javelin, and shot carried by returning track members Rich Gould, Frank Antonacci, and Robert Friedman. The season should be marked by exciting meets filled with many triumphs. Jed Matza takes the hurdles in stride as he racks up points for the Lancers. -...J-' Coach Geftic discusses strategy with senior Steve Jacobson. rw-1 . V 4 ,l Captain Peter O'Grady leads the pack. IGH EXPECTATIGNS FCJR GIRLS TRACK Sue Brower flies by a Millburn runner. Coach Berry expects big things from the 1980 girl's track team. This will be the girl's third season and the first season where everything will be mea- sured metrically. Coach Berry has high hopes for his seniors: hurdier Carol Bender, one and two miler Terry Levine, high jumper Cathy Mondello, shot put- ter Nancy Cushman, and 440 and 880 runner Sue Brower. The biggest asset will be senior Kathy McNally who will run the 880, mile, and mile relay. Last year she qualified for the North Jersey Section 2 Group IV Championship and she is certain to quali- fy again this year. The underclassmen should also add depth to the squad. Versatile junior Barb lmgrund will compete in the javelin, high jump and long jump events. Other valuable juniors will be Bonnie Sheidelman, Eileen Larney, Lisa Horowitz, Mary Jo McHugh, and Jean- nie Dougherty. Sophomore Michelle James should also prove to be an asset. The depth of the under- classmen combined with the experience of the sen- iors should make the 1980 season a successful one. ' ' ' , . ff 3' '. - ' 1, ' ' lj Terry Levine in the lead. unit-- .-., .
