BOYS' SWIM TEAM COIVIPLETES STRONG SEASON The Boys' Swim Team completed a strong 1980 season with a winning 10-5 record. Captained by seniors Mark Pantazes and Mike Jaret, the Lancer team showed great determi- nation. Pantazes' performances on the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard butterfly supplied the Lancers with many valuable points: Jaret's finishes on relays and the 50 and 100 yard freestyle competitions also accumu- lated points. Outstanding times were also recorded by senior Steven Slot- nick as he broke records on the 100 yard backstroke. Jim Gamble pro- vided the Lancers with continuous strong performances in state compe- tition as did star underclassmen Jim McGuckin, Kurt Hilss and Adam Sha- piro. Further highlighting many Lanc-. er victories were junior Mennen Gallas and sophomore Brian Fetzer. Captain Mark Pantazes compiled team leading times. DIVIDUAL RECORDS HIGHLIGHT GIRLS' SWIIVIIVIING Front row: Joanne Lazar, Abbey Speigel, Lisa Potenza, Laura Romeo, Lisa Burger, Darlene Shuckman, Mary McGuckin, Coach Alice Caskey. Row 2: Jill Keiswater, Patty Holland, Lisa Monica, Jill Potter, Roz Jacobs, Monica McManus, Alison Zadroga, Linda Holland. Coach Alice Caskey's girls' swim team fin- ished the 1980 season with a record of seven wins and nine losses. The season was highlight- ed by outstanding individual performances. Senior captain Roz Jacobs set three new school records in the 500 meter freestyle, 100 meter freestyle and 200 meter individual med- ley. Roz's fine swimming qualified her for state competition. Another senior, backstroker Mary McGuckin, qualified for both state and national competition. Co-captain Jill Potter finished a successful varsity career swimming the individ- ual medley. Senior Lisa Monica also swam very well in the 50, 100, and 500 meter freestyle events. The team was ranked third in Essex County last year, but as a result of defeating Columbia this season, the the girls achieved a ranking of second. Miss Caskey feels the team will contin- ue to improve with the help of able underclass- men. Juniors Monica McManus, Darlene Shuck- man and Linda Holland will provide strong com- petition due to their varsity experience. In addi- t':5L'i'. . tion, sophomores Anna Pochtar and Lisa Berger show great potential. Coach Caskey looks forward to continued success and im- provement in the next swim season. -if 5 ffdz .
