QLHSSES CLASS HISTORY TIME MARCHES BACK 1940-One hundred one green freshmen enter Livingston Academy to begin their second field of learning. As soon as we got acquainted we elected the fol- lowing officers: Cratus Vaughn, president, Frances K. Scott, vice-presidentg Sarah Christian, secretary-treasurer, Algia Holt, sergeant at arms. Cratus Vaughn was elected bachelor of ugliness by the student body. Mrs. Peek was our kind adviser during the year. 1941-Here we are again, but at least we have advanced one year. VVe feel that we are now a part of Livingston Academy, for we take a part in all school activities. We elected officers as follows: Patricia Smith, president, Mabel Ram- sey, vice-presidentg Ilene Beaty, secretary, Margaret Winninghani, treasurer, Betty Jo Barnes, reporter. Mrs. Dills led us through a very successful year. Ilene Beaty was elected most popular girl. Yes, we do feel that we are a part of Livingston Academy. 1942-Upperclassmen. How we all looked forward to that. To start the year off right we elected officers. Ocran Winningham, president, Bill Mitchell, vice- president, Betty .Io Barnes, secretary, Margaret VVinningham, treasurer. Later in the year we presented one of the best plays in the history of Livingston Academy, Full of Youth. The members of the cast were: Betty VVindle, Alice Hood, Oleeta Garrett, Algia Holt, Haskel Huddleston, Margaret VVinningham, Sidney Eldridge, Helen Franklin, Patricia Smith, Luther Franklin, Harold Vaughn, Ocran VV inningham, Joan Little, and Martha Taylor. Miss Hankins was sponsor. Follow- ing that we entertained the seniors with a barn party rather than a customary junior-senior banquet. i 1943--Seniors. V My, how times flies! We elected the following to fill the seats as officers: Algia Holt, president, Lucille Hinds, vice-president, Katherine Sells, secretary, Margaret Winningham, treasurer. Miss Hankins is again our sponsor. As we leave Livingston Academy we wish to express our deepest appreciation to all of those who have made our days at Livingston Academy a very pleasant phase of our life and for the fond memories that will return to us in the later years. GUNNELS LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT THE CLASS OF1944 When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for us to dissolve the mortal bonds which connect us with one another, and to ascend to more ethereal regions, our noble hearts and a decent re- spect for the opinion of mankind requires that we should dispose of our worldly goods in such manner as would be beneficial to all. Hence, we, the grad- uating class of 1944, of Livingston Academy, City of Livingston, County of Overton, and State of Ten- nessee, being of sound mind and memory, do hereby make, publish, and declare this to be our last will and testament, hereby revoking any will or wills heretofore made by us and declare all previous promises of such gifts as null and void. These are some of the visions which appeared to me: Wilbur Wright is now, by some trick of fate, a famous designer of ladies' hair styles, and is very widely known by all high society leaders. In fact, there are now in his shoppe some very noted personages. Among them are Gladys Davis, who is a famous singer with her husband's orchestrag Sidney Ruth Eldridge, Oleeta Garrett, and Margaret Winningham, who are now the wives of the mayors of New York, Philadelphia, and Chicago, respectively, and Elena Wilborn, who is a celebrated actress. Ah, what is this? In the heart of the Belgian Congo I see no other than our old friend, Sue Anna Webb. Oddly enough, she has Reba Lee with her, and they are teaching the natives the alphabet. As we would have expected, Henry Jernigan never married. He is now in great demand as a speaker in men's clubs throughout the country on the subject, How to Escape the Clutches of a Woman. Bill Mitchell is his able manager. Having acquired noteworthy skill along such lines in our English class debates, they seem to be doing quite well. Howard Winningham, it appears, has two professions. One week, he models men's clothes in a popular shop, while the next week he is a lifeguard. I knew his manly figure would get him somewhere. Who is that out there on the surf yelling, Help! Help! ? Why, Mildred Bilyeu, of course. How strange! Howard seems to be the only one who does not know that Mildred holds the Women's National Swimming Championship title. Good! Frances Barnes has at last attained her ambition of being a dietitian, but wait, there is a sad side to the picture. It seems that she used Jean Duke in an experiment. Dear old Jean just couldn't take it, and is now under the able supervision of the most famous physician of the times, Dr. Noel Qualls. His method of cure is quite new and strange, he simply talks and makes all his patients forget their ailments. Am I seeing things right? If I am, those two down in the corner grocery store are the former Gladys Duke and.Mabel Ramsey. They cannot seem to find time to buy any groceries for keeping their little sailors and marines away from each other's throats. By reading any sports page one can easily see who the most famous woman basketball player of the age is-none other than Helen Franklin. She and her manager, Betty Windle, are inseparable. Who is this husky farmer singing, Stay on the Farm, Boys, to his little farmers? I really did not know that Clarence Reeder could sing. Another interested listener is the missus, known to us as Wilma White. Frances and Roy Scott, with touches of silver in their hair, are sitting by their fnreside reliving in dreams their many happy and prosperous years of married life. Ruth Gore is lecturing on the subject, How to Be Attractive, Though Short and Dumpyf' The author of Advice for the Lovelorn is Lorene Daily. That old trio, Alice Hood, Alba Dale, and Lucille Hinds, is running true to form. They are now part of WSM's Grand Ole Opry. Alice is something of a Minnie Pearl, Alba is Oswald, and Lucille is a female version of Roy Acuff. I do not know what has happened to Walter Winchell, but Patricia Smith now runs his column, and has a far greater following than Winchell ever commanded. Much to my surprise, Creed Billings is now a history professor. I just couldn't get Mrs. Warren's teachings out of mind, he says. Algia Holt is a justice of the peace in Union County, Kentucky, on weekdays and a min- ister on Sunday. I see evidence of our government being run by Bonza Sells, Ninis Little, Philena Jouett, and Katherine Sells, who have been government girls so long they are quite well acquainted with the affairs of the nation. Jo Ann Little is a nurse, though it appears that nursing is only her hobby. She has several famous paintings in the art galleries of the world. I certainly had to look twice before I recognized Hillis Duke. She is now Hve feet eight inches and weighs one hundred sixty-five pounds. Anna Mae Bilbrey has now become owner of the East Side Cafe after working there for many years. Due to the absence of this colorful combine of Blue and White Gridders, many faithful followers were disappointed and are pleading for the return of these boys to the Field. NVC are sure that the teams in the future will carry on as before. BASKETBALL In a highly successful season, Coach Marie VViggins led her lady performers to the finals in the Fifteenth District before dropping a heartbreaker to York. The local sextet also wound up the season as runners-up in the conference standings with a total of twelve wins and two losses. The Academy boys came out of a rough season with twelve victories as compared to two losses. Under Coaches Bilbrey and Parrigin, the VVildcats reached the Hnals of the Fif- teenth District only to be turned back by the small score of 17-20. This record is one of the best in recent years.
